Dashboard is extremely important to me. How to test it?

https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/7777

No test build, no development repo, simple patch.

My eyes are full of tears of joy. Widgets works on older Firefox, Palemoon and Basilisk. They are also editable: I can add widgets.

Dashboard is extremely important to me. How to test it? My current OPNSense build is the buggy one (OPNSense 24.7.2 "Kernel panic") reinstalled on UFS filesystem. How to install test build to check the dashboard? Is it in development repo?

Ok here we have it. Nobody bothered to report back on this. It really can't be that important.

Cheers,
Franco

Which image types are you guys using here.. DVD or VGA?

I was using VGA version for all tests.

Fix that worked for me:

1. Wipe disk (without this installer barked later about some UUIDs and other disk related stuff).
2. Start installer, during install select "Other Modes" menu option and manually create UFS filesystem.
3. After install restore config backup.
4. Update to 24.7.2 (I did it from shell, and missing plugins were installed, too)

What was weird is that I was not asked for reboot after updating to 24.7.2 and adding plugins.

I've tested the whole thing on another hardware box. Same kernel crash/panic thing happens after update to 24.7.2

Update: I wiped disk and booted OPNsense 27.2 from USB. Then I logged in as installer and selected UFS option. After that screen was bombarded with fast scrolling messages (to fast to read anything) and the box rebooted.

Repeated the same, after selecting UFS install I paused the screen messages using "Pause" key but before I focused my camera on display, the box rebooted anyway.

Edit 2: ZFS install mode with config restore proceeds without problems, but after 24.7.2 update the whole kernel crash happens again. Selecting UFS install mode results in stream of error messages shown below.
Edit: I managed to take a quick paparazzo-style photo, so here is the part of fast-scrolling stream of messages:

So reinstalling OPNSense with UFS filesystem is the fix?

If it's the above hardware, I'd reinstall it into a shredder.

Well, it is definitely not.

I suspect if you install UFS it's fine.

Performed GUI update to 24.7.2. Reboot was required. During reboot box freezes. I connected display to VGA port and I see this:

EDIT: My RAM is OK, tested using MemTest86. Box is non-virtualized. Previous install options (file system, etc) were all default.

After updating to 24.7.1 I see no logs anywhere in GUI:

System: Log Files - empty
System: Firmware: Log File - empty
System: Gateways: Log File - empty
System: Routes: Log File - empty
Firewall: Log Files: General - empty
Firewall: Log Files: Plain View - empty
Firewall: Log Files: Overview - in all tabs I see "No Data Available"
Firewall: Log Files: Live View - nothing shows here, regardless of filters/options set.

Checked under Firefox, Chrome, Iron and Palemoon flavors.

I mean like, if you would like to signal that you have an issue, open it on github.

Maybe this change can be reverted for better browser compatability.

But without somebody raising the issue who uses alternative browsers, its harder to justify the need for it. So please raise your hand.

I am using only non-Microsoft and non-Chrome browsers. Same in company I work for (decided by IT higher-ups for security reasons).

OPNSense devs should not experiment with fancy gadgets which are aimed to be a weapons in war of Google with its competitors. And right now I can't even see the vital stats and states of OPNSense.

This is the first time I've seen this and I don't understand why fixing the problem ends up breaking it if we already arrived at the problem before...
Cheers,
Franco

Well, I suspect this was some unique combination of factors which resulted in this quagmire. It all started when box failed to reboot after an upgrade, so maybe something blocked the upgrade script so it failed to perform all necessary steps.
I did what doktornotor suggested: after the clean install I restored my config.

After installing 24.7 and restoring my config backup everything seemed to be OK. But after update from 24.7 to 24.7.1 my dashboard is now empty and options "Restore default layout" and "Add Widget" do nothing, i.e. after clicking on "Restore default layout" nothing happens and after clicking on "Add Widget" pull-down menu which should contain list of widgets is not opening and contains only "Nothing selected" line. I rebooted box after update to 24.7.1.
Edit: yes, I cleared cache/cookies in browser and tried different "fresh" browser.

Wouldn't it be a whole lot faster, easier and safer to just do a clean install of the latest version and restore the configuration backup?

I will be forced to do so, if I will find no other way.

Okay then, the base should have upgraded, but didn't. Let's rerun what's missing:
# opnsense-update -b -A 24.1 -r 24.7

After this nothing works again. No network, no SSH menu, no nothing. I connected display to mainboard's external  VGA port and I was able to see only some quickly flashing error messages about redis database unable to connect and then empty list of network interfaces. Then the screen cleared so I cannot even make the photo of it.
I have my keyboard and display attached directly, so if anyone has further rescue ideas I may work them on my box. I supose I can pause the booting process and access BSD shell somehow.
