Been testing Debian 12 on the exact same hardware today (dual booting next to opnsense).

CPU load is 2-3 times less, thread are spread on multiples cores, CPU boost is maxed, packet loss is 0, and routing work damn great.

I max out a symmetrical 10Gbe, which I was not able to do prior to that.

Up to you to draw the conclusion. Linux is my new router.

Also did you set your PowerD settings in OPN to HiAdaptive at least?

Yes I did, no it doesn't work. Yes the ppl on discord are actual contributor to the source code of freebsd.
And no, the kernel is not able so it would seem, to handle properly AMD cpu above zen2. And even zen2 are not supported correctly. That a 5-6years old tech at that point.

You are speaking of custom OS that have forked for more than 10-15years from BSD. It's like comparing Apple OS to unix/linux.
I'm wondering why some major open source (and not open source) project are getting the f out of bsd to move to linux though.

After speaking with people at freebsd discord I've more than the feeling that freebsd is at best dying, at worst already dead and can't keep with modern tech and hardware.

The more I think about it and the more I believe that freebsd is not the way to go, and that opnsense should switch to something with more support, more perf and more hardware support.

Somehow my CPU is unable to boost higher than 3.8Ghz on opnsense.
When I boot the exact same hardware on debian all core reach 4.7-4.8Ghz easily.

When I check sysctl output it clearly show that opnsense is unable to manage higher than 3.8Ghz

Btw I've looked at the ddclient project, since 3.9.1 there have been no release in two year. Some people seem to still be working on it though.
Gandi service as been added to the develop branch, for example, like many other services, but at the pace of the project release version, it will be a long time before we can see those services in opnsense.

Franco, I'm trying to add gandi as provider, could you please tell me after I've forked the repo, how can I test the change I made on the plugin on my opnsense install ?

Like that I can test, validate, use it and ask for merge request !

Edit: please tell me I don't have to manually patch the files on my opnsense install ^^

Comparing to the huge list of service available on dyndns, it's really embarrassing to force ppl to move to ddclient, that in his current stat on opnsense, only support 7-8 protocol ...
When dyndns supported about 60 DNS services ...

In my case, I'm using gandi. If I switch (or forced to switch to on version 22.7) to the ddclient plugin on opnsense, I won't been able to use it for Gandi anymore.
This is a major downgrade for me, and shouldn't happen in this current stat.

You need to at least support all the protocol available (cf. list on top) to even consider moving to ddclient.

You've set "Listen Interfaces" under System: Settings: Administration despite the warning.

I just simply upgraded to 19.x some week ago and seen this error recently. No change in configuration since about a year ago.

Somehow I wasn't able to connect to the WebUI. Rebooting didn't change the problem, still wasn't able to use WebUI.

Login as SSH was fine, so tried a few things.

First, tried to restart services. Failed.

Are you using our ports tree?

Can you be more specific, I dont really understand the "Are you using our ports tree?" ^^

I just did "opnsense-code tools ports src" to checkout the sources and try compiling.
So I would guest, yes probably using ports.

#15
I've tryed to compile htop on 18.7.5_1-amd64, but it result in error.

I had already compiled htop on a previous version but since a new freesh reinstall (hdd erase), I can't compile anymore htop.
