Hi all,

i read a few articles already about it and it seems to be somehow challenging.

Not all devices open up automatically the login page by connecting to a captiva network. In the past it worked very well to open a non https page within the browser but nowadays the http site become less and less.

Before i moved over to opnsense from pfsense it was possible to open any page (even https) in captiva portal to get the login page. Is there any way to configure opnsense to forward all URLs to the login page to get the users to the login screen?

Thx and KR

Hi all,

i have a question regarding the captiva portal where i need your support.

I have a captiva portal defined for 192.168.5.0/24. Within this subnet I have two devices which should be able to connect directly to the internet without a login page (technical devices with no interaction, cannot login).

I tried to solve it with firewall rules but this didn't work. What would be the best approach to "bypass" the captiva portal?

Hi all,

you always have one person which will not come along with IT infrastrucutre. Always one person who needs a special favor. This week I implemented 1 static dhcp mapping for my (W)LAN Interface as her Mobile Device is not able to recieve an IP-Adresse.

By checking the logfiles of the system today i noticed: damn: Since she has her static mapping there is no captive portal login. For all other devices its working fine.

Is there a way to force a device with static IP (which is in the same subnet as the captive portal), just outside of dhcp range, to use captive portal?

Thanks a lot. Thats very helpful. I was a little bit disappointed by checking the database. Only current valid information are stored. Nothing historic.

ok. Sounds interesting. Do you know where the file is located? So I can check out if it helps to understand the session ids. But shouldn't it be visible somewhere in the logfiles / frontend also?

Hi all,

I'm trying to analyze an issue (not sure if it is the device or the opnsense, expect the device to be the problem) and not i'm struggeling a little bit to "read" the session IDs of my Captive Portal.

In the Logfile I can find entries like:

captiveportal: session Myj4rkqH[removed by author]9S11w== hit idletimeout
captiveportal: remove concurrent session lTALy[removed by author]3Zv7+ug==
captiveportal: session G0K+5K[removed by author]RQ== hit idletimeout

but how can I translate / lookup those cryptic session IDs?

Hi all,

thanks a lot. That sounds great. So I can shut down my metal box in a few weeks / months forever :)

Hi everybody,

let me shortly introduce myself. I'm from germany, 30 years old and i'm using pfsense on real metal since 3 years. Now I decided to get familiar with opnsense because pfsense is not running stable on my VM environment and I cannot find the reason.

OPNsense looks really nice. I am impressed by this community and the amount of available tutorials and questions. So far, I'm happy to decided to check out opnsense. In the next weeks/months i will pay attention to stability on my virtual environment and if everything works fine I will moveover and shut down my pfsense metal box :)

One question/topic occured which I couldn't solve on my own. On my pfsense box I had syslog-ng installed to collect logfiles and store them on the filesystem. In the moduls/plug-ins I could not find any similar. Is syslog-ng also available for opnsense?

Thx and KR
