Hi Franco,

windows is not an option ;)

I already ordered this box with intel nics: http://www.shuttle.eu/products/slim/ds68u/

Would you be able to debug the problem if i send you the hardware? Or maybe someone else?

Cheers
Martin

Ok, let me rephrase: re(4) drivers on BSD are difficult. I checked the source code for fixes in newer versions and did not find a single one. This is not going to be fixed. ;(

Hi franco,

thank you for the reply.

Since the box does not have any extension capabilities it will be hard to replace the nics (usb would be possible).

To replicate the failure you just need to push about 30mb/s (megabyte) and starting at about 20 gig overall traffic one or both nics fail. dmesg tells you that they eventually come up again but the do not forward any traffic after the first failure.

Disabling the acceleration helps - even if you do not use the feature e.g.:

If i disable vlan hw acceleration in the options it only disables the hw feature on my lan side (i only use vlans on my lan side - it might be a bug but i did not test vlan on the wan side). If i disable the acceleration manually it takes much more time and traffic before the nics fail.

Btw. using windows as os (just test installation) the nics do not fail even under much heavier load.

If it helps to grant access to the box for debuging purpose i can add your public key next week (i wont make it earlier).

Cheers
Martin

Same here - afaik a known issue. Disabling all HW acceleration helps extending the time before failure.

16.7 Legacy Series / Re: IPv6 DualStack problems
December 27, 2016, 06:01:13 PM
In the meantime i have some questions:

Where can i "see" the "track interface" implementation to debug the mechanism?

How can i get more debug information of the PPPoE and DHCPv6 process ? Even with the debug flag activated it is pretty reticent ...

How can i manually reconnect the pppoe connection in the cli ?

Thank you!

16.7 Legacy Series / IPv6 DualStack problems
December 27, 2016, 06:17:38 AM
Hello,

i already posted in the 17.1 beta thread but it seems that i have a very special ISP configuration and reinstalled 16.7 latest to avoid beta problems.

Provider is wilhelm.tel/willy.tel

My scenario

  • ipv4 over pppoe works very well
  • my provider only supports a locallink address for IPv6 routing
  • i need DHCPv6 Rapid Commit (any idea what that is?)
  • i can ping the ISP ipv6 gateway from the router
  • i do not get a prefix (afaik) and my lan interface does not announce a ipv6 prefix
  • opnsense needs to use a ip address from the assigned prefix
  • opnsense must ask for a prefix

My current WAN config (yes/no means i tried both)
IPv4 Configuration Type   PPPoE
IPv6 Configuration Type   DHCPv6
Enable debug yes
Use IPv4 connectivity   yes/no
Request only a IPv6 prefix yes/no
Directly send SOLICIT yes/no
DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation size   56
Send IPv6 prefix hint   yes/no

ping6 gateway

ping6 fe80::aa9d:21ff:fee1:7f00
PING6(56=40+8+8 bytes) fe80::201:2eff:fe6e:ff07%pppoe0 --> fe80::aa9d:21ff:fee1:7f00

16 bytes from fe80::aa9d:21ff:fee1:7f00%pppoe0, icmp_seq=1 hlim=64 time=0.841 ms

Any idea whats wrong with my setup?
#36
i just tested opnsense 16.7 and latest stable pfsense - same problem.

I am now back on 16.7 latest and will aggregate all informations about my ISP.
#37
How do i know what i (can) get from my isp ? Maybe i need to have a better understanding of IPv6 over DHCPv6. I thought that i should get the prefix from my ISP (at least /64) but how do i know which prefix i might expect or where can i see the offered prefix (in case that i do not need to send a prefix hint)?

The only thing i see in the ppp log is:

Dec 26 22:59:23 opnsense ppp: [wan] IPV6CP: rec'd Configure Ack #1 (Ack-Sent)
Dec 26 22:59:23 opnsense ppp: [wan] IPV6CP: state change Ack-Sent --> Opened

Dec 26 22:59:23 opnsense ppp: [wan]   0201:2eff:fe6e:ff08 -> 76a0:2fff:fe56:aa00

and from the syslog:

Dec 27 00:37:27 opnsense opnsense: /usr/local/etc/rc.newwanip: ROUTING: setting IPv4 default route to 84.46.104.218
Dec 27 00:37:27 opnsense opnsense: /usr/local/etc/rc.newwanip: ROUTING: setting IPv6 default route to fe80::76a0:2fff:fe56:aa00%pppoe0
Dec 27 00:37:27 opnsense opnsense: /usr/local/etc/rc.newwanip: The command '/sbin/route delete -inet6 'default' 'fe80::76a0:2fff:fe56:aa00%pppoe0'' returned exit code '1', the output was 'route: route has not been found delete net default: gateway fe80::76a0:2fff:fe56:aa00%pppoe0 fib 0: not in table'

It seems that my old fritz.box used a /56 prefix - so i will continue with that size.
#38
Second part of the results:

With "use IPv4 connectivity" and "Send IPv6 prefix hint" still another IPv6 ll address on the pppoe connection but no public ipv6 on the lan interface (still set to "track interface 'wan'"):

I tried a /64 prefix for now (that should always work, shouldnt it?)

Just tried all configurations.

I use 17.1 Beta on a zotac CI323 with all acceleration features disabled (https://www.zotac.com/de/product/mini_pcs/zbox-ci323-nano).

My provider requires PPPoE (via lan) for ip access. This does work very well for ipv4 with nat in my local lan.

For ipv6 my provider routes all traffic trough the ll and this seems to be a problem. I cannot get IPv6 to work:
(ll = LocalLink)

Internet6:
Destination                       Gateway                       Flags     Netif Expire
default                           fe80::aa9d:21ff:fea5:7b00%pppoe0 UGS   pppoe0

I can ping the router of my provider. Since i only have a ll address on my router other targets do not work. For my local network i need to ask for a ipv6 prefix but i have no clue how i can configure opnsense to make sure the prefix is configured on my lan interface.

This is my current log with IPv4: PPPoE, IPv6: DHCPv6, LAN Static IPv4 with NAT, IPv6 Track Interface with Prefix ID 0:

Any ideas? My provider supplies this document for the PPPoE configuration (german):
http://www.willytel.de/fileadmin/redaktion/Unternehmen/Informationen_zur_Nutzung_eines_kundeneigenen_Endger%C3%A4tes_Stand_Juli_2016.pdf

I need "Einstellungen Internet-Zugang (Ethernet/PPPoE)" but it just says DHCPv6 prefix delegation and for ipv4 DS-Lite (which is wrong in my case - i get a public ipv4 address).

Thank you. I will try the beta as soon as its available.

I am missing the VLAN_HWTAGGING option on re0. So it seems to be enabled on re1 and disabled on re0, isnt it?

The screenshot and the ifconfig output were created after a restart without any further changes to the settings.

Hello,

i am pretty new to opnsense and i am using the zotac C323 with 16.7.10 as firewall.

Since we have wan/lan disconnects (ports are going wild - more in another thread) i tried to disable all hw acceleration features for the network cards and found that not all options are applied to all network cards. Maybe the features are only disabled if the feature (vlan) is used on that card but thats just guessing.  re0 is lan and re1 is wan (without vlans). Wan is just a static ip configuration:

ifconfig
