Title: Minor webui issues
Post by: packet loss on November 13, 2015, 06:56:49 am
Few minor webui issues that I noticed after install. In addition I added a few suggestions as well  ;).

Status --> RRD Graphs
Diagnostics --> States

Suggestions:
Status --> System Logs
Highlighting each tab at the top should highlight the entire box not just the top half. I'm referring to tabs that don't have 2 levels of text.

Diagnostics --> ARP Table
Allow each column to be sortable. I see up and down arrows on the tabs, but clicking on the tabs doesn't sort them.

The resolution I'm currently using on my computer lcd doesn't show the entire left side menu when for instance Diagnostics is expanded. I noticed that if I use the left side scrollbar to scroll down to select a menu item that after I select the item the menu scrollbar scrolls all the way back up to the top hiding the menu item down below that I selected. Maybe this can be changed from happening.

Finally just wanted to say that I'm impressed with OPNsense. First time user coming over from m0n0wall. Used OPNsense-15.7.18-OpenSSL-serial-amd64.img to install to an msata drive. Look forward to seeing OPNsense around for along time.

Hi there,

The old RRD graphing front-end has been deleted from the development version (replacement is System -> Health) and the states pages have been reworked in terms of navigation and the menu glitch has thus been fixed. The development version no longer has "status" and "diagnostics" in favour of inline pages for the respective service/vpn/system.

System Logs tabs (and almost all other tabs) have also been removed in favour of submenu items. This makes the actual page content more focused and unifies navigation in the actual menu.

The menu has less padding and less entries, collapses better. I hope this gets rid of your "scrolling" issue?

It's really a larger step in a new direction. Check it out if you have the time and let me know what you think. :)

Diagnostics --> ARP Table: I like this, will add a ticket to the bug tracker (not just for this, but makes sense for all tables eventually)

Thanks for the kind feedback. We'll try to make OPNsense even better with everybody who is willing to help and talk problems out. We can never have enough of these great people here. :)

Cheers,
Franco

PR for ARP/Tables: https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/465

Development version switching: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=917.0

I think there is a bug with pkg that prevents clean transition from package opnsense to opnsense-devel. I will update the command sequence to reflect this hiccup when the 15.7.19 update is out later today.

From the webui I just updated the firmware from 15.7.18 to 15.7.19 perfectly with no problems or errors shown.

Now just installed the opnsense-devel using the serial console with no problems or errors. I like the new menu system better. Noticed some minor webui bugs. Do you want all concerns related to development builds posted to the Development and Code Review forum? Or do you have a location on github where tickets can be created?

GitHub is the most traceable option and has good response time, forum works too, emails if need be. I tend to create GitHub issues for forum entries and emails, but these can slip through. It's up to you really and we'll do our best. :)

In any case: providing feedback is key, doesn't matter how.
