New update broke my Intel NUC

Hi All,

As I am running OPNsense on my new Intel NUC I had to recompile the kernel of onboard LAN, and with the new update (OPNsense 16.7.b_514-amd64 FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-p19 OpenSSL 1.0.2h 3 May 2016) it reverted back to old kernel. Luckily I had the kernel file backed up and so I was able to bring back the box in few minutes. Can anyone tell me what all changes were made on system level apart from package update? If I move to Freebsd 10.3 will I  be able to use the same kernel (in 10.2) or do I have to recompile that from 10.3 source once again? More over I have a some feature requests, where can I post those requests?

Hi there,

We've had another user that reported FreeBSD 10.3 worked for their Intel NUC where 10.2 did not.

The kernel will upgrade to the correct kernel just like every other bit of the system to make sure nobody gets stuck on the state of security or going out of sync with other parts of the system.

(a) What modifications did you do? If you want something to stick, we need to include it in our build if it's something everybody will benefit from and it's on FreeBSD's immediate radar.

(b) Are you willing to try FreeBSD 10.3?

My NUC has Realtek LAN adapter (8168h), although there is a Realtek kernel available (if_re.ko) it isn't supporting that specific model, so I had to recompile this kernel from source by modifying some kernel source parameters to add support for this model. I believe Freebsd 10.3 might support this without any modding.

I wish if there was an addon for FreeRadius server (like in PFsense), Transmission (torrent) client and a Samba file server addon, please let me know if you have any plans in developing any of these addons.

(b) Are you willing to try FreeBSD 10.3?

I would love to try freebsd 10.3, but I wasn't able to find 10.3 based OPNsense in download section. I am also planning to migrate my current setup to a VM, so if there is a 10.3 based OPNsense available I will give it a try.
