Newbie question about Alias and DNS
« on: January 18, 2017, 03:05:47 pm »
I was setting up some NAT rules and saw that alias/group seem to work only if it can resolve name to IP.
As I don't have a DNS local only DHCP, what should I do?
Now I am setting up rules with entering hosts with fixed IP addresses

Is my assumption right how an alias/group works?
Should I install a DNS server locally?
How can I make DHCP from OPNsense register in this local DNS server?

It's not a DNS based alias. The alias used in OPNsense is purely label an IP address, for example.

Where do you get the idea from that it needs to resolve?

I read "resolve" but it was not a DNS resolve, but resolve the list of aliases.
Found the part of DNS forwarder and registering DHCP leases, so I'm good to go now.
Tnx!
