WAN interface limited to 100M-base
« on: January 31, 2016, 05:46:20 am »
I have supermicro C2758 mini itx board with 8G RAM, 4 ethernet ports.

I just install the 16.1 version. The WAN was set to autodetection by default. However, it is limited to 100M-base interface only. I have changed WAN to a different ethernet port, it is still the same. I have also tried to force it to 1000M-based, it doesn't change.

Any idea?
Thanks

I take it you plug your modem's WAN port directly in the server's port?
Are you sure that the modem has a 1000M-based port, does plugging it into another computer show 1000M?

Bit too insufficient information to work with here ;-)

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried different connection. It was plugged into modem's gigabit Lan port, it was also plugged into a switch which is connected to another gigabit router.

If I plug the computer to the switch, it was fast.

Strange. I have a Supermicro C2758F SuperServer myself, probably the same one you have.
Mine runs Free Hyper-V 2012 R, and I have a cable modem with a 200Mbps connection from my ISP.
The cable modem plugs in one physical port of the server, and part of a VMSwitch (not shared with host OS of course).

Checking the port speeds it shows 1Gbps.

name                               interfacedescription                            Status                              LinkSpeed
----                                  --------------------                              ------                               ---------
Port 2 - WAN                    Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I354 #2  Up                                   1 Gbps

Your computer will show the connection to the switch, not the modem.
If you want to find out what speed your modem really supports, plug the modem in the computer directly, and then check the speed.

If you run Windows o that computer, open a PowerShell and type "Get-NetAdapter" (not need for the capital letters, perse).
It will show you what I quoted, in a way.

Thanks. It is the same board.

Did the factory reset. Problem solved,

Do you use VPN service? What is your performance on openvpn?

I am with PIA, There is a lot of variability. I dont know why. Still tweaking.

Thanks

Odd, but if it solves it...

I don't use VPN at all.

What is PIA? Doubt it this case it stands for "Pakistan International Airlines" ;-)

Ah, ok. Like I said, I never did anything with VPN :-)
Not personally anyway.
