DNS issues?
« on: June 06, 2018, 04:39:09 pm »
I've got my DNS Settings set to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 through System > Settings > General.  I'm still seeing the below in my logs however when I'm viewing the firewall logs.   It looks like it's still using Google DNS?  I'm not sure what  I'm doing wrong here?  Sorry have to forgive the newb here, maybe I'm missing something simple?

8.8.4.4:53   udp   let out anything from firewall host itself
I'm also seeing this for 8.8.8.8 as well... my DNS settings are set to point to the local LAN ip of the Opnsense box  from my devices via dhcp.

I'm running OPNsense 18.7.b_238-amd64 I've tried the public release as well was doing the same thing?

I do several actually plus Wyze Security cameras, I'm guessing they are what's hitting it and they over ride normal DNS rules.

Quite possible.

You can use Insight to show who's sending what to where.

I came here as I have exact same log entries.  What surprised me is it says it's coming from the firewall host, not a client, which is also what is being questioned here.  @marjohn56 are you telling me that traffic from clients will be presented as traffic from the firewall host for DNS?  If not, then it is the firewall itself sending this.
