No Internet on OpenVPN Client

I am looking to migrate to Opnsense from another platform and want to replicate my existing setup as much as possible.

On my existing platform, I have it running an OpenVPN client to a VPN provider and use a firewall rule on the LAN interface that says IPv4 * * * * gateway OPT1 client interface.

When I try to this with Opnsense I just get no IPv4 dataflow at all.

I have set the OpenVPN and the OPT1 interfaces to have IPv4 * * * * rules which replicates my existing setup. And yet it's still not working.

Packet captures just show no dataflow. I'm not blocking bogon or private networks.

Is there something I am missing?

Thanks

Hi, interesting topic as I'm facing a similar issue.
I'm coming from pfSense and I have 3 VLAN going out through the WAN and I need to have a OpenVpn connection to a provider working on some IPs in one Vlan. As soon as I start the connection (VPNarea specifically) internet is blocked.
I followed the guide that was working on pfSense (https://vpnarea.com/forum/thread/pfsense-vpn-client-guide/) and I do not understand what I'm missing.
Any help?
Thanks

So no one else uses Opnsense as an OpenVPN client to a 3rd party VPN provider and has successfully configured this?

I have been trying to get this to work for a while too, no luck. I plan on spending sometime this weekend investigatng.

Hi jelly-ck

Let me know how you go. This is the only thing stopping me from migrating to Opnsense.

Hi,

I tried different configurations, but all with negative results, I'm trying to configure NordVPN client on OPNsense 18.x but with no results.
