radvd logfile

just noticed my log file is full of these since going to 18.1.r2

Jan 18 18:39:18   radvd[37605]: version 1.15 started
Jan 18 18:39:18   radvd[71698]: removing /var/run/radvd.pid
Jan 18 18:39:18   radvd[71698]: sending stop adverts
Jan 18 18:39:18   radvd[71698]: Exiting, sigterm or sigint received.
Jan 18 18:38:20   radvd[71478]: version 1.15 started
Jan 18 18:38:20   radvd[72393]: removing /var/run/radvd.pid
Jan 18 18:38:20   radvd[72393]: sending stop adverts
Jan 18 18:38:20   radvd[72393]: Exiting, sigterm or sigint received.


they repeat every few minutes

From the OPNsense shell, do you get any output from the radvdump command? You'll have to let it run for a while to capture advertisements.

I've just issued that command and it's stuck.

Hmm I have no radvd.conf... strange.

I think that command upset mine.. :) rebooted and its back.

All it does is join the ff02 multicast group and dump the advertisements it gets to the console.

The fact that there is output shows that the router(s) on your network are advertising. Hopefully OPNsense will be one of them ;-)

Check if the output is sane - it has the LAN IPv6 address for starters. DNS servers are a bonus.

It's a bit odd that Kev and I were seeing the same thing then it stopped. I have not seen it again since, even after a couple of reboots.

Whatever, you cannot fix what has vanished. :)

Just checked the logs again no messages

So I have fixed it :-)

No idea what I did though to break it in the first place

As Martin said weird we both saw the same thing then it just stopped

Well this is weird

Messages reappeared almost 24hours to the minute later then stopped again

Inbound log also full of info messages for same period then they stop again
