Migrate to new hardware
« on: October 14, 2019, 05:30:00 pm »
Hello - apologies, this has probably been discussed many times but a quick search threw up only a few threads.

I am currently running: OPNsense 19.7.5_5
On existing hardware: APU2C4
Just bought new hardware: QOTOM

To get the  new box up and running as is, I think I just follow these steps:

- Backup existing OPNsense config
- Install OPNsense 19.7.5_5 on QOTOM box
- Identify the interfaces (believe this will flash the appropriate LED: echo f2 > /dev/led/ibt0 (or ibt1, 2 3)
- Edit config.xml, find/replace old interface labels with the new ones (e.g. igb0 -> ibt0)
- Restore config.xml on QOTOM
- Check stuff works !

Looks like an alternative to editing the confi.xml is to "press any key to assign interfaces" during OPNsense boot and do it there.

Anything I missed ?

Thanks  :)

Well, I did it and it went fine !

No need to edit config.xml as the interface labels were the same.

Installed an additional package that I had on the original box, and the config was automatically populated from the original config.

One small issue with 'monit' which i think I had put a custom script in place on the old hardware, so will need to add that.

Overall, well happy with how easy it was  :)
