Good day folks.
I'm new to the forum here, and am looking for some sage advice regarding turning one of my 1u Rackmount systems into a dedicated OPNSense solution.
It's a SuperMicro SYS800D
    4 core 8 thread Xeon-D @ 2.5Ghz)
    64GB of RAM.
    1TB NVMe
    6 x 1GbE NICs
    2 x 10GbE NICs
I was wondering if  having that much RAM would be beneficial, as I'm planning on configuring it to be as close to an NG Firewall solution as possible (SSL Decryption, IDP/IPS, etc)

Any thoughts or ideas would be beneficial to my little project.

If you need to buy RAM to get to that level, then no do not go that high. If you already have that RAM and don't need it somewhere else, then leave it be. I have 16GB in my firewall, 8.8 in use and 5 of that is ZFS cache. 64 won't get you anything, but again if it exists now, leave it. Only thing it will do is draw a bit more power from the wall.

Awesome. Thanks Greg. Yes, I already have the RAM in the unit. It's currently running as my "Low Power" VMs ESXi Host.
I'll keep her as is when I convert it over to OPNSense. Thanks for the reply.
