I messed up with my opnsense install, I accenditially vinged of the use static arp, and now I cant login to my router.

i want to reinstall it from scratch, but when i download the vga image file, i cant convert it to .iso and make a boot usb drive. I use Rufus. My hardware dont see it as bootdrive.....any help is appriciated

I cant remember how i did it years back, and cant remember if i need vga or dvd image, but I tried both and i just cant make it work

Use the VGA image and raw write it to the USB drive.

Thanks, but i dont get this....when i download the .img file (vga) how do I convert it to .iso? And when i have converted it to .iso, what are the parameters to set, in Rufus....

Sorry, but i am a new newbie...years sin e i installed it in the first place.

i have 7zip installed too

You don't convert it to iso, it's a raw disk image. Just write it to the flash drive 1:1.
I'm not that familiar with Rufus. Does it have a raw write option?

(If you need an iso for some reason, download the DVD image.)

Thanks, no i dont know what i need, i have the hardware and just need to reinstall it to it from an usb drive...

How do i make the usb drive bootable....and write the image to it?

Just use Rufus to write the image. No conversion or extra options necessary. The USB drive will be bootable.

So...i download the vga.img file, and make Rufus do the rest? Any thing i need to choose in the program, like mbf

Download the VGA image, unpack it with 7-Zip, write it with Rufus.

It should just write the image byte by byte to the medium. Not mess with in in any way. If Rufus does not do that (I don't use Windows a lot), then maybe Balena Etcher might be more to your liking.

Or use Linux or a Mac and just use dd - this will guaranteed perform a byte-wise copy.

Cant get it to boot from the usb....

When i write it to usb, it makes 4 or 5 partitions on the usb drive, is that normal

Yes.

Thanks guys, I think I got it reinstalled, now i just need access to gui, I thing I got the port assigned correct, but i cant get the gui up in my browser....anything i need to do?

Plug PC into LAN interface, wait for an IP address, connect to htttp://192.168.1.1.

If you are not sure which interface is LAN, try them in turn until your PC gets an IP address from the 192.168.1.x range. Of course set your PC to DHCP.

Thanks, i finally got it working, it was a pain, even after reinstalled it several times and got the networkinterface assigned correctly, it just never came online. I hooked up the monitor and keyboard to it again and rebootede it.....it took some time to get wan configured, and with the monitor and keyboard hooked up, the dhcp came online and assigned IP to my computer, but still no internet connection, I logged in to opnsense GUI, and uploaded my old configurationfile, witch works beautifully, all settings, fw rules everithing went back to my good old setup...yay....and now it went online...boom, back in business 😁😁.

I lost ipv6 server, it went offline and I cant get it back...but I can do without it, and i got an "extra" thing in dasboard, a "boot/EFI/msdosfs" patition under "disk usage"...didnt have that before

Thanks a billion for your help
