which switch

Which would you choose and why?

HP ProCurve 2810-48G 48 port 10/100/1000 or a Dell PowerConnect 2824 24 port 10/100/1000?

Ignore amount of ports.

I can get either for about the same cost but i am looking for suggestions / reasons one might be more appropriate for a home / small business scenario.

For SOHO applications I would opt for a silent switch like the TP-Link managed switches such as the T1500G with all the usual features (VLAN, bonding, LLDP, etc).

I use the older model for "access switches" around the house, with a Netgear 24 port managed switch as the "core" next to the servers.

Plenty of posts regarding getting both to a quieter state e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/7lkzqz/best_way_to_silence_a_hp_procurve_281024g_switch/

With those two brands, I've only had prior experience with a fanless HP - no complaints there.

Currently run Ubiquiti Unifi gear which performs well without the expense of some of the bigger brands (and has a nice GUI interface when running the Unifi controller in a VM)...

I didn't ask about tp-link switches or netgear. I was very specific not only about brand but model also.

Thanks for replying but it is of no help or relevance.

I've seen the references to changing fans.

If my research is correct I think the HP is Layer 2 and the Dell layer 3 capable.

Layer 2 being mac addressable and layer 3 being mac and IP addressable.

For OPNsense is Layer3 any advantage or would the HP layer 2 be more than adequate for any future updating ?

For the cost i can acquire either for it will be one of the two, the price can't be beat. Question is which would be more advantageous to use and for anything done in the future.
