Disk usage
« on: May 04, 2019, 10:00:07 am »
Hi

Any explanation to why the new update now takes 1.4 Gb diskspace? I think the old version took only a couple og hundred Megabytes...as I recall :-)

Not that I don't have the space, I just wondered

Since 19.1.7 we have two Phython version installed. Software gets bigger, more core tools. We also have Perl since only a bit after our first release. The switch to PIE binaries made the binaries bigger as well. All just churn for the sake of progress.

We even had to rename "cd" to "dvd" at one point just to manage expectations of the optic media install because it kept growing.... :)

Cheers,

Oh, yeah that make (Opn)sense, all software has a tendency to get bigger...and usually, better and more secure :-)

And as I wrote before, its no big deal for me, i'm using like 4% of my disk, I was just wondering :-)

Thanks for your reply
