PPPoE Uptime on Lobby Dashboard

How can you get the PPPoE uptime on the main lobby dashboard instead of it being hidden away under interfaces>overview

I noticed this gimick on the other sense some time ago. What is it good for, I asked myself... Don't you do a fresh PPPoE every night? Just asking...

I have uptime of Opnsense, but this is different to the uptime of the PPPoE connection

It's not a gimmick, you can look at this and see if any problems with connection quickly instead of delving into the other menus. You may have a line fault that is causing the link to constantly go down, you may have it where just the PPPoE is failing but the VDSL connection is still active.

Why would I want to refresh PPPoE every night? The service is designed to be on 24/7 and not reset daily. Bit silly refreshing your PPPoE connection every night.

I'm sorry if you didn't feel my manners were perfect when I responded, but I don't think there was anything wrong with the response as I made an original valid question. I try to get my wording correct so never offend people, but i don't always get it right.

My  uptime of the system is currently 1 day 19 hours and 30 minutes, yet my uptime of my connection is only 14 hours 30 minutes. Yes I had the ability to see this on the frontend as a widget in pfsense, i also had this facility on smoothwall, you can also see this on most routers these days and also on vdsl modems.

So I was hoping to see this feature on opnsense as well, as it can also let you see quickly whether or not you are having issues with the connection.

Asking why would I want to refresh my PPPoE every night was also a valid question, as in my mind I don't think that it is a sensible to keep restarting the connection every night.

As you mention to @franco, I agree it would be probably best suited in the gateway section after the status area (it could show uptime of the connection when online, or the downtime of the connection when offline)

Calling other people silly is Texas cowboy style and I don't really miss that part of the pfsense forums. StephenW and derelict I learned a lot from, but I never understood why they work for this company...

In old days, the PPPoE was disconnected ever 24h (round about), you got a fresh IP. To avoid loosing contact during day time the PPPoE config in both senses enables refresh at a given time (every night). Nowadays I don't even know if there is a limit for PPPoE (with allIP), read somewhere 180 days. But I kept the habit to refresh every night and get a new IP. See this as part of "privacy", although tracking can be done by various techniques, I know.

If I want to check the quality of my PPPoE, it's only 3 mouse clicks away, Reporting -> Health -> Quality. So I really consider this feature a gimmick. But maybe it will be implemented in the future, as franco suggested.

Ah.. I never called anyone silly, my comment was meant that 'wasn't it a bit silly refreshing every night', of which you've more or less now replied of the reasons why you refresh it. I don't think there are any limits these days as I know people who have been connected for more than 180 days without issues.

When I first had FTTC connection I was seeing a reset every week of the connection, which was only noticed when streaming or online gaming - my isp at the time tried blaming everything except their equipment (even though used multiple different modems and routers and that's how i started with smoothwall and they even blamed that along with a faulty line even though the vdsl link was still active) - they went bust and I moved to BT where I only had a few issues in all the years with them and when I did have an issue which they refused to do anything about it so I left and moved to Sky (as it was also cheaper).

I've now just switched from Sky where I know I had good connection on vdsl link, but could never really see the full connection time on opnsense (Sky used MER and DHCP connection which renewed every 30 minutes) for it (u could if used their own router) and now I've switched to Zen this week and wanted to be able to see how the line was performing.

I don't consider saving my time a gimmick
Isn't the dashboard supposed to give an overall at a glance status?
