Dear,

After blaming opnsense i came to realize it is most likely all on me, the slow loading of the WebGUI.

I don't see how to start troubleshooting this. There appears no indication thus far. When i do a factory reset the WebGUI is snappy as expected.

This setup has a WAN - LAN - OPT interface setup, Unbound DNS is set to query WAN and Localhost.

The slow actions is the same over IP or DNS for the management interface. There is no other interface listening to the management interface.

I suspect this may be a routing issue or gateway weighting issue but could not find anything related.

Best Regards,

Joris

Hi Joris,

Could there be a switch, leak, loop between LAN and OPT? A bridge? Maybe a bad cable...

Cheers,
Franco

PS: what is a management interface in the WAN, LAN, OPT dynamic?

Management interface is WebGUI, which is only available on LAN.

I'm not sure how to read the routing table in opnsense. Since i have not configured any manual routes and did not alter the non-blocking rules i'm not sure how a loop route could come into existence.

This is an issue that I have also noticed.  Admin GUI is very slow to load the first page.  Once it loads it is fast till it is idle for sometime and then everything slows down again.  To get a page refresh it takes approx 3 mts

I just started getting the slow web gui myself.
And by slow it's glacial or times out even just logging in but especially loading the dashboard.

I tracked it down to a firefox problem.

I use open suse tumbleweed so instead of waiting for firefox to be repaired once again I changed to Konqueror for just web gui's for opnsense and my wireless access points.

no slow downs, no delays and very fast loads and page switching.

For me it's definitely a firefox problem and NOT OPNsense.

It seems every new and so called improved version of firefox is a letdown and is slow lately.

mss clamping result good for me on a bad or old nic, then i replace.

Looks like the answer from Dixon has the solution.  This seems to be specific to Firefox and since I started using Chrome I do not see the slowness anymore.  Keeping my fingers crossed

:D

I don't know if it's specific to firefox only I just know firefox is at fault for opensuse tumbleweed and konqueror works very well.

EDIT: It would be interesting to see how many have a firefox problem with the web gui / managment

Really the question is why on firefox?

I noticed the same behaviour in the past, especially when loading the dashboard. Yes, I use the firefox browser. But, even if the konqueror works flawlessly, this will not necessarily mean the firefox browser is the problem.

I haven't yet tracked this down, because it was not so important for me.

@J. Lambrecht: You can try to do network profiling using the built-in debugger of firefox. Or you can review the whole communication and latencies using wireshark.
OPNsense 24.7.11_2-amd64

...have a look here:

...post dated 15-12-2017 10:43 and see what Firefox tries to reach on the net BEFORE you open the first web page. Maybe an explanation. I see this frequently that FF takes long time to open then WAN is down. If there are pages on the web to be reached befor the sense GUI opens? I never tried (yet)... ;-)

I use Paelmoon as much as I can, but saw limitation with OPNsense, as some pages in the GUI don't work properly with Palemoon (or Konqueror).
kind regards

I had an issue similar yesterday. It was due to the FQDN of OPNsense resolving to the external WAN interface and NOT the LAN interface. I use DnsMasq DNS and added a Host Override.

Once changed to internal IP FQDN and IP works OK.

In Firefox Profile folder, remove crypt8.db and crypt9.db, then it will be fast again. But make a Backup before
