Hi everybody,

let me shortly introduce myself. I'm from germany, 30 years old and i'm using pfsense on real metal since 3 years. Now I decided to get familiar with opnsense because pfsense is not running stable on my VM environment and I cannot find the reason.

OPNsense looks really nice. I am impressed by this community and the amount of available tutorials and questions. So far, I'm happy to decided to check out opnsense. In the next weeks/months i will pay attention to stability on my virtual environment and if everything works fine I will moveover and shut down my pfsense metal box :)

One question/topic occured which I couldn't solve on my own. On my pfsense box I had syslog-ng installed to collect logfiles and store them on the filesystem. In the moduls/plug-ins I could not find any similar. Is syslog-ng also available for opnsense?

Thx and KR

Welcome to Opnsense...

A lot of us have already ended up here via pfSense, so you are one of many.

syslog-ng is slated to appear sometime in the next few months.

Syslog-ng will replace the remote support in 18.7 to allow better export options / consistency with RFCs in 18.7. I don't think we will replace everything syslog just yet for local logging, but it's a possibility for the future.

PS: Welcome! :)

Hi all,

thanks a lot. That sounds great. So I can shut down my metal box in a few weeks / months forever :)
