I'm not 100% sure that's the issue but it could have caused it:

pkg-2.6.2_1 repository mismatch: FreeBSD
pkg-2.6.2_1 version mismatch, expected 2.3.1_1

You need to revert pkg to our version from our repository. Otherwise upgrades will be disruptive.

Cheers,
Franco

How exactly did you set up geoblocking? We don't guess on a Wednesday

26.1, 26,4 Series / 503 Service unavailable after ...
Last post by RutgerDiehard - Today at 12:22:36 PM
I installed OPNsense 26.1.8 update last night and didn't reboot as the update didn't require one.

This morning, I attempted to access the UI and got a blank page with 503 Service Unavailable. I SSH into the box and attempted an upgrade to the newly-released OPNsense 26.1.8_5 which hangs. So I reboot the box again, login to the UI and attempt the update. This hangs again with the UI unresponsive.

Are there any logs I can retrieve that would help? The UI is fine unless I attempt another update.

We hotfixed it today, search for updates.

It was a very KEA thing, here some references:

26.1, 26,4 Series / Kea DHCP fails to start after ...
Last post by flyingbird76 - Today at 12:10:12 PM
Hi

I upgraded from 26.1.7 to 26.1.8 last night and all was OK initially. I did not rebout Opnsense after the upgrade as i'm not using Captive Portal (with or without IPv6).

This morning I restarted the firewall and when it came backup, the Kea DHCP service failed to start and I cannot start it manually.

Viewing log under services>>Kea DHCP shows nothing (it is blank - I cleared it before restarting Kea so I could see latest errors).

Viewing System>>Log File>>General shows the following (again cleared it before restarting Kea service)

Last day
2026-05-13T11:04:46Noticeopnsense/usr/local/sbin/pluginctl: plugins_configure kea_sync (execute task : kea_configure_do(1))
2026-05-13T11:04:46Noticeopnsense/usr/local/sbin/pluginctl: plugins_configure kea_sync (1)

To get my environment up an running again (all my devices use DHCP reservations), i had to quickly export my DHCP reservations from Kea, reformat them, and import them into DNSMasq which is have enabled for DHCP only.

I would prefer to keep using Kea instead of DNSMasq for DHCP.

How can I track down why Kea is no longer starting when the logs are not showing any info?

Is anyone else having similar issues with Kea after upgrading to 26.1.8?

Thanks in advance.

Post the output of "zfs list" after importing, please.
