2Gb ram is not enough for GUI + widgets in the lobby + whatever services/plugins may be running.

My very basic OPNsense configuration is using 2032 MB at this very moment so I think 4 GB or the recommended 8 GB RAM would be indeed the better choice.

However...

He has more than enough RAM and all of it is being "abused" by something somehow :

At the moment it's 93.48% - that's nearly 19GB!

That's pretty INSANE !!! :(

Maybe it's not me, but the device that has poor code?

Probably that or maybe you have hit some kind of weird compatibility issue between the Air Purifier and your Accesspoint ??

I would e-mail both companies involved and ask them for a solution! :)

It's a high end device so you'd think it can't be that everyone is having this issue.

These days we all get to buy products that are basically put on the market in their Beta/Testing stage and then most of them get a lot of fixes for many months/years after their release, so don't count on that ;)


But may I ask which products you are talking about exactly and what the software and firmware versions are for both ?

I believe there are some adjustments you need to do if both your Proxmox Storage and OPNsense VM use OpenZFS as the File System

Proxmox is a Hypervisor that manages what amounts to Docker containers and virtual machines.  I think what you're talking about applies to people who want to share the same storage amongst all their containers and virtual machines.  Docker treats all containers under its management as a private subnet.  Proxmox allows you to easily extend that subnet over your physical network.  As a descendant of Docker / a virtual machine host, the default behavior of Proxmox is to isolate all of the resources of the containers and virtual machines under its control.  If I wanted to give all the containers/machines access to the same storage space, I would need to do what you're talking about.

I know what both Proxmox and Docker can do and that was totally not what I was talking about ;)

All of that being said, that's not what I do.

My OPNsense has a virtual HDD file stored on the Proxmox physical HDD.

And which filsystem do both of them use ?

Whatever failure I experienced was isolated only to OPNsense.  If I experienced a failure of the physical HDD, that would have been reported on Proxmox.

I am also not talking about HDD/SDD failure here!

Probably a faulty wifi implementation in the air purifier side. Check with the vendor if there are any firmware updates or known workarounds

Thank you all for your input. Well I realized that I had my interfaces labled incorrectly and its the LAN interface that I need to swap! So my question is if I switch my lan interface over to a different interface controller should all my vlans, dhcp, etc auto moved over to the new interface? And as always thank you in advance for your input.

As mentioned in the GitHub issue, the temporary workaround requires the following steps:

1) Go to AGH DNS, comment out any upstream servers. Add 127.0.0.1 for unbound

2) Go to Unbound Settings and disable DNSSEC if enabled

3) Go to Unbound Advanced and disable the NSEC and the two Harden... options

4) Set 1.1.1.1 as upstream for Unbound in the DNS over TLS section


Undo the steps above after updating AGH

The issue was fixed by changing the MAC address of the virtual machine - seems like not related to the upgrade at all.

Further inspection discovered that ARP replies were not arriving inside the VM - they were visible in tcpdump on the bridge as well as both member interfaces, but not inside the guest os.
Tried clearing arp cache in the vm, on the opnsense host and on the switch that sits between opnsense and other machines in the subnet, did not help.
I spun a second vm and this one got all the networking working fine, so I decided to get new MAC address for the original vm and that solved the problem.

Still have no idea what was the root cause of such behaviour, but at least it's working now.

Hallo Leute,
zunächst noch einmal herzlichen Dank an alle, die geschrieben haben.
Das Topic kann als (zumindest was OPNsense angeht) gelöst geschlossen werden.
Eine übers Wochenende testweise eingerichtete Sophos XG210 mit OpenVPN Client
führt zum gleichen Ergebnis, also ist irgendwas im LAN faul. Das 10.20.0.0/16
Netzwerk ist in einem Abscnitt zwischen 10.20.1.0/16 und 10.20.7,0/16 über eigene
Glasfaser verbunden, ich denke mal, das da irgendwo Medienkonverter oder ein
Switch drin verbaut sind. Obwohl Windows Clients über Ethernet alle Knoten
im gesamten Netz erreichen, können das VPN Clients über eine Firewall nicht -
sehr seltsam, hat aber hier natürlich nix zu suchen :-)
