Which begs the question: how is this supposed to be better than it was before? (there must be a reason for the design choice. As mentioned before, it renders the number of rules to display pretty much useless now.)

Last post by OPNenthu - March 05, 2026, 11:32:40 PMTo give it an IP address needs a DHCP server on the UniFi default network, right? So again VLAN 1 or native LAN (untagged) is required, unless you have a UniFi gateway. Otherwise I guess you have to get to it by its default IP (192.168.1.20).
Does the CLI allow configuration of switch ports, even temporarily? I wasn't aware.

I think just about the only thing I can do is call 'set-inform' to specify the controller location. Maybe that's all that's needed, as long as the controller is reachable and already configured.
But to configure that requires a functional network, and without a functional switch you don't have that, and round-and-round I went. That was the end of adventures with non-default management VLANs for me :P I guess there's always a way to work around any problem but I don't know if the juice is always worth the squeeze, especially without a requisite amount of experience to be able to recognize the workaround.
What I would recommend to other beginners now is that even if you don't want to use the native LAN for management, at the very least keep a native LAN interface in OPNsense and a small dumb switch that you can use to provision a new UniFi setup in case of disaster. You always need a fallback way to throw a switch, a controller, and a laptop together for bootstrapping.
