Attempting to get rid of restriction problems on the consoles in the house I have finally narrowed it down to an issue with UPnP on this build. I ran into a thread here https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=3469.0 that seemed to have the issue. I reinstalled miniupnpd in an attempt to fix it myself. During completion I get this message in the console readout.

For this daemon to work, you must modify your pf rules to add an anchor
in both the NAT and rules section.  Both must be called 'miniupnpd'.
Example:

# NAT section
# UPnPd rdr anchor
rdr-anchor "miniupnpd"

# Rules section
# uPnPd rule anchor
anchor "miniupnpd"
***DONE***

I am unsure if this is still needed since I saw no reference to this step in the thread mentioned before. I also am not clear on exactly the message is trying to have me do. My current build is.

Is it possible to update to the RC series from the beta? The update function doesn't seem to pick it up but you can download the images. That is to say are the instructions posted here https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=917.msg10577#msg10577 safe to perform on BETA builds?

I had a chance to do my upgrade and so far absolutely love the layout. I am a bit sad however that SMART (widget) seems to have disappeared several updates ago. With that said I use a small SSD to keep the system peppy, I am correct in assuming it does support TRIM on a regular basis correct? I used a throw away 32gb SSD I had lying around, but knowing its doing GC would be good peace of mind!

No buying necessary. As I stated earlier in the thread. Just for testing. I actually have an AP handle my wireless. If Intel cards dont work (though recommend which is confusing) then so be it. I was simply looking for information. It isn't the end of the world.

Nope that must be it! I am running hardened BSD. I just wanted to get my hands dirty with integrated wifi. I actually use unifi APs attached to my switch for primary wifi. In no big rush, just playing with my dev router. Thanks again for all the work!

Im using the 16.7 alpha and the HBSD kernel. Im trying to get my intel wifi card to work as wifi. I have an AP which works great actually, I'm just trying to get experience configuring them, because you never know. Unfortunately while I can see my NIC enabling it is a different beast entirely, I cannot set it to access point mode. It seems only capable of finding other networks.

found it, It was; but allow root login wasn't checked.

I actually cant :/ I cant access my router VIA putty, Im certain the password for root is correct and even logged in via the GUI to change it incase it wasnt and yet I still receive Access Denied when attempting to login via SSH

Hi Franco, Thanks for the reply. I havent ran into any issues with the new build since the update so I tried to investigate a bit further on my own before I took up any more of your time. I found the issue completely by accident. I went to jack into the core switch with my work laptop which boots by PXE by default. It worked flawless. I went over to the 48 port that does our distribution and it failed. I swapped it out with an old cisco 24 port and it worked flawless. looks like something happened with the switch that our PXE machines use. No worries sorry for the trouble!

Hm I ran into an issue today with my core server. WDS is no longer functioning on the network after the upgrade. Clients arent getting the PXE response. Has anyone had similar issues or any tips I can look at?

This happens to me as well on the WAN side. My speeds are also atrocious, which surprises me a little. I go usually when under usage from 90/90 to around 16/12 with IPS enabled on WAN. Shortly after I will drop connection. I continuously drop connection (up/down/up/down) until I disable IPS completely.

Given you seem to be experiencing the same issues im inclined to believe it may be our NICs. I run dual Realtek RTL8111G  chips on my router. Which is a shuttle DS81.

CPU: I3 4130
8GB RAM
32GB SSD

I went into this knowing realtek wasn't really fantastic as far as NICs go. I use intel cards on my servers. I didn't expect it not to work with IPS though, which was a pretty major feature I was looking forward too. Thankfully however OPNsense has been the best platform iv used (it was also the last I tried) so its not a total deal breaker.

been working great so far on the new kernel.
