Hi, I run opnsense 24.7.10 with adguard home and have always been able to update adguard home from the UI. Just today, it prompted me to install an update but gives me an error when I try to update and asks me to install a manual update instead. How can I do a manual update on OPNSense? Thanks

Hi
I just upgraded to 24.7 and every time I check for updates now, it says that there are 4 packages needing update:
New packages to be INSTALLED:
   libICE: 1.1.0_2,1 [SunnyValley]
   libXau: 1.0.9_1 [SunnyValley]
   libXdmcp: 1.1.5 [SunnyValley]
   xorgproto: 2023.2 [SunnyValley]

Once I let the update finish and see **DONE**, and check for updates again, it says the same packages need updating. Is this a bug? I've tried 4 times now

Thanks

Hi
I run opnsense with adguard home & unbound DNS and wish to set up a custom DNS record to point app.mydomain.com to my application locally. I have Traefik reverse proxy running on one of the ports of my unraid server so if I could arrange for the app.mydomain.com to resolve to Traefik, I think Traefik would be able to connect to my application. How can I set this record up? Hopefully my question makes sense

Hi
I have a pixel 8 and the unbound DNS seems to be blocking the weather widget since it doesn't update the weather when I'm connected to my network. What domain do i need to whitelist to allow google weather through? I ideally don't want to allow other google ads through

TIA

General Discussion / Find time of last restart
July 19, 2023, 11:18:27 PM
Hi, is there a way to tell when my PC running OPNsense last turned on or restarted? I'm sure this is a very basic question but I can't work out how to get this information

Hi
I run several services on my server through docker containers and currently access these services using the IP address of the server followed by the port number. Is there a way to arrange it so that I can access the services locally using container names? For example if I want to access my Plex container, typing plex.local instead of the IP address? Fairly new to opnsense so sorry if the question is silly or basic, TIA

General Discussion / Separate VLAN for IoT devices
February 06, 2023, 07:27:23 AM
Hi, I run opnsense on a mini PC along with home assistant on a raspberry pi running some IoT devices. I plan to move the home assistant and all IoT devices to a separate vlan from my laptop and phone for security purposes.

I'm a networking newbie so wanted to ask, will this break any of my automations or functionality? I assumed it wouldn't matter as long as home assistant and the IoT devices are on the same VLAN. I also assume I'll have to put in a rule to allow me to access the web GUI for home assistant as well (perhaps only allowing port 8123). Any other rules I might need to setup?

I was also thinking I could seperate the VLANs and initially allow all traffic but measure traffic crossing the VLAN boundary to see what rules I might need to apply. How would I go about logging the traffic between the VLANs like this?

Thanks

I was looking to buy the tp-link eap670 as an access point for my home. Will I need a seperate controller? Any issues using this AP with opnsense?

Thanks in advance

Hi
I have setup opnsense to route all LAN traffic through a VPN tunnel using PIA and wireguard (as per script made by Fingerless Gloves) but apparently there may still be DNS leaks if using a local DNS server. I use the unbound DNS server on opnsense, how can I route this through the tunnel to avoid DNS leaks. Or is there another easier way to avoid leaks?

General Discussion / Slow iperf score over ethernet
January 26, 2023, 10:22:59 AM
Not sure if this is the right forum to post this but i have just set up a mini pc running opnsense and ran iperf using a cat 6 cable connected from the LAN port of the mini PC directly into my macbook (through an ethernet to usb C adaptor) and it gave me speeds around 95Mbits/sec. I tried using macbook connected to 5ghz wifi from access point connected via cat 6 ethernet (to eliminate the USB-c adaptor as the cause of the problem) and still got the same speeds. Running speedtest on my laptop using Ookla also gives 95Mbits/sec using either wifi or ethernet cat6 cable direct to opnsense router. Yet speedtest directly from opnsense is 250Mbits/sec (the speed that i'm paying for). Any ideas why this might happen? I'm thoroughly confused

Thanks

General Discussion / Seperate VLAN for IOT network
January 24, 2023, 11:53:25 AM
Hi,
I'm new to opnsense and have a very simple network with no switches and opnsense running on a mini PC connected to Asus 86u as access point (+asus 68u as added mesh point). I have about 20 IOT clients including smart light bulbs, xiaomi gateway with child clients, conbee zigbee gateway with child clients and also a Kodi media server + home assistant server. I want these components to be blocked from contacting my phones and laptops so wish to setup two VLANs for trusted and non trusted clients.

I don't really understand how to configure the VLANs as some of my non trusted clients connect ethernet to the access point while others connect via Wifi. Do i have to have all the IOT components connected to the same Wifi SSID for this to work? If not, how can i separate the components into the two VLANs? Also, from what i understand Asus AC86u is a pain to setup VLANs so plan to purchase some Unifi access points. Do i have to do this or can i get away keeping my current setup?

Thanks in advance

Hi, networking noobie here trying to get started with opnsense. I just bought a topton mini PC with quad NIC to run opnsense and am not sure which access points to setup. I live in a large single storey house with no ethernet cabling so probably need two access points with wifi backhaul for one. Otherwise I could use a powerline adaptor to wire the second accesss point. Can anyone recommend which access point might work best for my situation? I prefer wifi 6 so am thinking ubiquiti lite but not sure how I'm going to power the second one since they can only be powered with PoE

Thanks in advance
