Tutorials and FAQs / Re: Captive Portal update?
« on: November 30, 2020, 12:02:33 am »
could be a setting issue?
have you verified the ips, gateway and dns of your portal clients?

does the server have access to internet? or if portal is disabled can client access the internet?

you can also check if the portal db is curropt, check in the logsif there are errors

Tutorials and FAQs / Re: Gateway Groups - Load Balancing - Sticky connections per IP or sessions?

based on this thread, it would seem that "sticky connection" should be "off" for multiwan to work better.

it should cause problems with ip sensitive site though which you should for now individualy set a policy connection, for now that is.

as said, no promised but will be discused with developers

based on may own, inconclusive test, i dont encounter issues with IP, maybe site nowadays have better session control...
inconclusive as yet but disabling sticky connections help

Zenarmor (Sensei) / DB updates
« on: November 27, 2020, 12:06:37 pm »
is there an option to automatically install new DBs?
I ask this because in my case it does not uodate on its own.

considering another thread here wherein customization to the DB, are remove after DB update.

at the very least there should be a marking warning that there is an update...
or maybe in the daily email report
there should be a mention in the start
that there is an update available

btw running check, says no new version...

that would be a problem to list specific sites that would require such (banking sites perhaps) but i migth try that.

is this issue specific to opnsense?
or cant sticky connection may be route servers/site to same gateway until no more connection uses the site. it may not multiwan correctly but should not be a problem.

but in may case it is intermittent, which means it is working at some point or level... it just goes down or a few second then back... i just dont know what happens or why

Thank you! I've already found out what the issue was! If you use sticky connections and shared forwarding then you experience that the internet connection drops if you activate the policy based routing rule in the firewall with the load balancer group. Found an old Github bug report about this and tried it... Et vous la it works if you deactivate shared forwarding and leave sticky connection enabled. So maybe this is a bug from past that never been corrected... I don't know!? The problem is now that I don't know if traffic shaping is working without this shared forwarding setting. Anyone knows?
Regards

hmmm seems to be related issue. in my case if both shared at sticky enabled, and multiwan policy selected connectionn will work intermittent... you would need to refresh most of the time which is anoying, connection is notmal if using one gateway or backup mode.
never tried disabling sticky... as it may destroy legit site that require uniue IP. ... well now i migth need to try....
or maybe disable shaping? then again I also have captive portal turned on...

General Discussion / Re: Multiple WAN IPs on each interface with DHCP possible?

you want multiple ip on 1 interface
or you want to use the multiple ips assigned to you by your ISP?

i'm now trying out enabling, if that would help in my issue...
hmmmm seems like there is not much people into multi wan(load balance)

firewall->settings->advance
Disable force gateway    Disable automatic rules which force local services to use the assigned interface gateway.

EDIT: there is a slight improvement as far as experience but I still experience a "sort" of disconnected state.... I cant really pinpoint the issue becuase it does work in some point... then just disconnect... you have to keep on refreshing... please note that by using regular gateways there is no problem and the connection is fast.

without the "disable force gateway" option, disconnection is every 1minute and last for about 3osec or more

I had the same issue and also could not login via ssh (the authentication no longer worked) to force a reboot from the command line.

As I also had no access to the console, the only solution was to power cycle the firewall. It then rebooted and everything worked again.

However, I have to say, this is not how an upgrade should go.  :-\

I also have console, tried rebooting via console at via the web gui several times but no effect

by powering off? the issue was gone? have not done that yet, will try that
