Hi,

Have been using opnsense for the last few years and its just great so thank you for all the work.

When I first started using it I used to get the occasional issue with the vpn service where the gui would report the service was not running. I am now getting this again with the version I am on being OPNsense 20.1.7-amd64. My inbound VPN still works even though the gui reports it's not and reports the service is not running either.

Is there any fix/workaround for this please?

many thanks

Examples below from the gui.

OpenVPN

Server UDP:1194 Client connections
Name/Time   Real/Virtual IP
[error]
0   Unable to contact daemon
Service not running?

hi.

Did you resolve it?

I have 2 of these at different locations both on 19.1
I use rufus to create the image on my USB stick etc

Thought it might be of interest but I found a work around to clear the issue. My initial 19.1 build was like yours an upgrade which gave me the same issue as you. I since built a clean build and then restored a full back up which again left my vpn status widget being unable to contact the service etc. So I did another clean build but only restored my firewall rules and some other custom settings but not a full restore. I then configured the vpn section fresh and the vpn widget now works for me just fine.

It appears for me that the in place upgrade to 19.1 and the full restore of my working config both seemed to break the vpn status widget but doing above has resolved it  :)

whilst I cant help fix it I too have the same issue as you with the daemon message. A friend is trying to help so fingers crossed he  can work out why it's happening.

18.7 Legacy Series / accessing modem gui via wan port
August 11, 2018, 06:08:11 PM
Hi,

I wondered if anyone can help or answer a query I have please.

I wish to use a draytek vigor 130 vdsl modem (uk version) but it only has one Ethernet port. It would be great if I could access the modems gui via my lan but this would mean having to get opnsense to allow me to see the modems lan address via the wan port.

I know draytek routers and some asus routers can do this with the right commands so wondered if it would be at all possible via opnsense. I would like to be able to see the modem stats for my vdsl line without having to disconnet my qotom due to the modems 1 ethernet port...

any help or clarification appreciated.

thanks
