No, the minimum is 512MB: https://wiki.opnsense.org/index.php/Hardware_setup - as I mentioned in your other thread.

The minimum RAM is 512MB as shown here: https://wiki.opnsense.org/index.php/Hardware_setup - I'd suggest a good starting place would be 1GB. :)

15.7 Legacy Series / 15.7.23 - another painless update!
« on: December 23, 2015, 05:49:26 pm »
Just update to the latest release without problems, as usual. :)

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the team for all their hard work this year. I hope you all have a good break over the Christmas and New Year period, my best wishes to everyone involved in the project (and forum members).

I'm looking forward to the new year release of 16.1.  8)

I think is not appropriate to set a separate monitoring system in order to have statistics on the utilization of channels.
Why not, don't you monitor all the machines in your network?

To put another OS in a small network? What for?
As I've just mentioned, to monitor your complete network and you could always add monitoring software to an already existing server.

Where I have a large network, I use zabbix, but I have a small company with a small server, which is nothing other than to monitor "whether enough Internet channel and how the data are on the VPN"

Is RRD demanded a lot of resources?
Well, we could debate this point for ever but the position is quite clear and the rrd graphs are gone. Whatever you decide to do, it's your choice in the end. ;)

As mentioned several times, the rrd graphs are not coming back and my opinion would be to use some other server on your system for a more complete monitoring system - is there any reason you don't want to do that?

It works fine for me on an ESXi VM & Workstation using the iso download, have you tried that?

I would suggest that it's better to forward these logs to a central syslog server, you can do better historical analysis there rather than on the firewall.

15.7 Legacy Series / Re: Access of Internal WEB Server via both LAN and WAN
« on: December 16, 2015, 08:06:53 am »
What you can't (normally) do from within your LAN is access your public IP address and have it forward that to your LAN. The firewall needs a feature (usually) called "reflection" and OPNsense has that.. You need to go to the rule that forwards the port from the WAN to your LAN IP address, edit that and scroll down and you'll see an option labeled "NAT Reflection", it will be set to the default which means it's not enabled and you need to change that.

The other option is just to ccnfigure a DNS server on your LAN to point to the local web server.

Hmmm, both of those sites work for me. I've just enabled the proxy and added the blocklist and pointed my browser at the proxy port, they are both accessible and no ads.

Which site is it that you're trying to access? When you enable the proxy, are other sites available or does it cause problems for them as well?

« on: December 13, 2015, 09:01:31 pm »
Sorry, my bad. The LAN is a /24 and the OPT1 is probably a single IP. I say 'probably' there as I not added an OPT1 after my testing the other day, I'll try it again tomorrow and see what happens and make sure that what I've told you here is correct.  :)

Yes, I tried it from both connections and obviously the LAN goes away if I'm on that NIC but I wouldn't have expected it to disappear if I use OPT1. In fact, the only way to get this back is a reboot, it's a VM running on an ESXi 6 server and has VMXNET3 NICs installed but I don't think there's anything odd about this set-up and there's also very few rules in the firewall. For various reasons I did a clean install of the current 15.7.22 and that had the same problem.

This isn't really a big problem for me, just an oddity. It would be interesting to know if anyone else can reproduce it.

Hi Franco

The difference in my test is that my LAN & OPT1 are on the same subnet i.e. 192.168.1.1 for the LAN and 192.168.1.240 for OPT1 - they're both fixed IPs and the WAN is fixed but picked up by DHCP for IPv4 & IPv6 (if that's relevant in this case).

Hi Franco

Unfortunately this behaviour still happens as I described in my original post. It's always reproducible, if you need me to provide anything specific about this problem then let me know.

As mentioned above, they're gone but they have been replaced by System Health. I'd suggest that monitoring your firewall should be the role of some other server on your LAN with something like LibreNMS. :)
