16.1 Legacy Series / Activate Hyper-Threading (or not)?
« on: June 02, 2016, 03:06:14 pm »
I've recently installed OPNsense on a new piece of kit that has a dual core i7-4560u processor and hyper-threading. I've read various posts/threads/blogs on the internet (mostly older ones) that advise against using hyper-threading but they've been mostly in relation to running freeBSD in a VM, there have also been some comments that it doesn't make any difference whether it's activated or not - what's the current thoughts on this? FWIW, I do have it activated and there seems to be no problems that I can see, the system is lightly loaded and download/upload speeds seem good. I do have a m inor niggle with the onboard NICs but that's for another thread. :)

If you have support from Deciso I'd suggest your best course of action would be to contact them directly.

Have you assigned an interface for the wlan? You do that on the Interfaces/Assignments page.

Have you disabled the offload functions fo those NICs and how much RAM on the VM?

I guess it might help if you detail which version you upgraded from and to which version you're now on, I don't know if a list of plugins you had it installed would be useful but it wouldn't hurt to mention those.

You can also block it by SSL Certificates, take a look at this page in the Documentation: https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/ips-sslfingerprint.html

Thanks Jos

After reading the page that Franco pointed me to, your comments just confirm what I understood from the 'legalese'. :)

General Discussion / Use of the OPNsense logo
« on: March 24, 2016, 07:45:46 pm »
I don't know if this has been mentioned in any documentation (I couldn't find anything) but I was wondering what the restrictions are on the use of the logo. I was thinking of adding it to a signature on a forum that I frequent and obviously that would include any required copyright notice, is this possible?

That's still strange, I always make a point of checking the url is correct by previewing the post and clicking the link. It works fine for me in FF45 and takes me to the correct page.

16.1 Legacy Series / Re: update issue (related to configd)
« on: March 15, 2016, 07:10:31 pm »
You mention a couple of times that you reinstall 16.1 then upgraded (when your problem occurred), the current version is 16.1.6. My question would be, which exact version were you installing and which version were you upgrading to. What happens if your do a clean install 16.1.6, does that run OK? What hardware are you running this on?

Really? It works fine for me, maybe it's your browser but the OPNsense github is here: https://github.com/opnsense/core
