18.1 Legacy Series / Re: How to start the installer script from the DVD iso image?
« on: June 12, 2018, 08:43:29 pm »
Further down that page it also gives details of how to install to HD:

Quote
If you have used a CD-ROM, VGA, Serial image without a config import you are by default able to (a) log into the root shell using the user “root” with password “opnsense”, or (b) log into the installer using the user “installer” with password “opnsense”. The GUI will listen on https://192.168.1.1/ for user “root” with password “opnsense”. Using SSH, the “root” and “installer” users are available as well on IP 192.168.1.1. Note that these install medias are read-only, which means your current live configuration will be lost after reboot.

General Discussion / Re: Trying to set up Cloudflare DNS

Some description of where you actually put the DNS setting might help and also what results lead you to think it's not working.

General Discussion / Re: SNMP Working?
« on: May 13, 2018, 07:39:36 am »
I'm assuming you're using the latest 18.1.7? The SNMP service works fine for me. Check the services page and see if you have the Interface Binding/Bind Interface set to "All", if it is then change it to a single interface (LAN) and see if that helps.

I'd suggest you remove the localhost IP from the first entry, if you actually have a DNS server running on the firewall LAN IP then change it to that.

18.1 Legacy Series / Re: DNS question: How to use DNS other than the one the ISP specifies in its DHCP?
« on: April 26, 2018, 05:44:04 pm »
You were given a perfectly satisfactory reply to your initial question, why do you think that anyone answering your question knows your skill level? Your answer to the initial reply could have been phrased a bit more politely and brief, you might then have got the answer you wanted. Your replies are argumentative, you attack or patronise someone that tries to help you then complain that your under 'personal attack', you need to chill out and be a bit more pleasant to those trying to help you otherwise yopu will alienate more people on these forums. If you decide to write another one of your essays in response to this post then I, for one, will not be reading or answering it.

If DNSmasq AND Unbound are disabled, who is going to do the forwarding to the Google DNS? ;)

There won't be any forwarding because it's not required. If dnsmasq and unbound are disabled, the DHCP server assigns the DNS servers configured on the General page to the clients. So the clients query the Google DNS servers directly. In this scenario OPNsense is not involved in DNS at all.
That assumes there's no LAN PCs/Servers that don't need DNS resolution, if it's required then a LAN DNS server is needed or have I missed something obvious?

@everyone but comet: don't get in an argue with comet!!! (!)

Just answer his question(s), don't assume, don't ask, don't explain!
Just! Answer! His! Questions!

Why?

The answer lies within his history of posts, topics and answers here, on this forum. If you care to check his profile, you will see comet expects nothing more then ”key, bull-eyed answers”, or else will get into an aggressive arguing; at least three quarters of his history is a continuous arguing.
It's a pity that he didn't phrase his (many) replies on more temperate language instead of being argumentative and patronising to those trying to help him. I stopped reading his posts a while ago. :(

can you detail how you do that? I'm also interested to push data from Suricata to influxdb
btw: does anyone use a "standard" grafana dashboard for opnsense already?
I don't know if this is what you're after but here's a link I found during a recent search: https://fauie.com/2016/06/27/suricata-stats-to-influx-dbgrafana

You must be a youngster, the mainframes I worked with had IBM Selectric Typewriters as consoles when I started in the computer game.

This feels like it could degenerate into the  Four Yorkshiremen sketch :-)
It certainly could except I'm a Lancashire lad myself (Liverpool, to be precise). :)

An 'Admin' account can be any users on the system but is initially just the root account until you add further admin accounts. Anyway, I'm glad you've got into the system. :)

Why don't you try my suggestion about installing without changing the password and see if you can login to the Web UI with the default credentials, it works for everyone else.

It could be your keyboard layout that's the problem, is it a standard English layout or another language and did you change it at installation time? I'd suggest you try to install and don't change the password and you should be able to login to the web UI with the default settings, see if that works.

Hi.

I cannot send notification mails with Office365.
Do you mean you're sending an email to office365 or sending an email via that service (relaying) to another account? Have you used port 25 or 587? I can't imagine why it wouldn't accept it and I have no problems connecting vis STARTTLS on my own mail server using port 25 or 587.

I can't answer your specific question but there is an Open Source version here: https://github.com/google/google-authenticator

Perhaps that's the one (or something similar) that's being used.

I don't really understand your question, what would be the point of installing OPNsense if you're not using an internet connection? What is it you're actually trying to achieve?
