High availability / Load Balance Multiple OPNSense Instances
« on: January 22, 2022, 08:23:52 am »
I am looking for information if there is an appropriate way to load balance multiple OPNSense instances.  I am wanting to spread the throughput load going through the firewall across multiple devices/instances of OPNSense.  Is this possible?

General Discussion / Re: Clearing Automatically Generated Rules
« on: June 11, 2020, 06:57:07 am »
I am looking for an answer/input on this as well.

I am evaluating using pfsense and opnsense as my firewall setup transitioning from an edgerouter device.  I am liking the interface of opnsense better than pfsense, but the list of automatically generated rules has me pause going the opnsense route.  pfsense doesn't seem to have these and/or allows you to turn off the few automatic rules it generates.

I would prefer to have complete control over all of my firewall rules.  Yes, I expect this to increase the learning curve.  But, what better way to learn.  Overall, I like the idea of being able to explicitly control everything my firewall setup it doing.

Hardware and Performance / Hyper-V Generation 2 lock-up/stop responding issue
« on: June 09, 2020, 08:11:22 pm »
I have noticed when running version OPNsense 20.1-amd64 in a generation 2 hyper-v environment, the console window will lock up on occasion.  Here are some details:
- The installer will lock up/stop responding if you are slow to respond to the prompts.
- The console will lock up/stop responding after the system has been running for a while.

Am I missing a configuration setting perhaps?  Or, is this perhaps a bug of sorts?

Note: I did install the same version in a generation 1 Hyper-V environment on the same host system and am not able to reproduce this problem.
