20.7 Legacy Series / Zerotier stops intermittend (unstable) (20.1.7)
« on: June 02, 2020, 08:52:56 am »
Hi,
Zerotier seems to stop after a while (30min - 2h) In the Dashbord the Icon indcates red. Under VPN Zerotier the green "arrow flag" is on.  under Networks I get unable to retrieve network info.  Sometime I can restart zerotier via the shell "zerotier-one". Sometime "zerotier-one" just hangs. Checking via myzerotier shows that the OPNsense is not connectet to zerotier.
What can I do helping to get better info to find the root cause?

German - Deutsch / Router Artikel in ct no 22
« on: November 14, 2016, 11:05:01 am »
Hallo,

16.1 Legacy Series / [SOLVED] DNS question: What do I need that local hostnames are looked up first?
« on: March 02, 2016, 11:48:56 am »
Hi, I have a very stupid question.
I have a number of local host Hostnames configured under "Services: DHCP: Server"
If I try to access or ping one of this hosts by name I do not get response of this local host. But I do get response by the Server of my provider where my domain is registered. In case I enter this host name under "Services: DNS Forwarder" then the local host responds to the local address doing a ping.
My question is how can I achieve this without entering the host name twice? I have played with the the settings "Services: DNS Forwarder" (Static DHCP and Prefer DHCP) -> no change in behavior

BTW: It was working by "default" as desired with my m0n0wall.

 ping www.myregisterddomain.ch
PING www.myregisterddomain.ch (217.26.xx.yy): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 217.26.xx.yy: icmp_seq=0 ttl=53 time=13.959 ms

ping kyocera1370
PING kyocera1370.myregisterddomain.ch (217.26.xx.yy): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 217.26.xx.yy: icmp_seq=0 ttl=53 time=17.241 ms
(xx.yy are not provided
The local address of the kyocera1370 is 192.168.x.x

Thanks Jakob

15.7 Legacy Series / VLAN Trunk / tagging with VirtualBox
« on: November 10, 2015, 04:31:49 pm »
Hi, I am trying to set up my OPNsense as a virtual appliance in VirtualBox. (VirtualBox 5.0.8 on OS X 10.11.1)
The WAN IF traffic should reside in VLAN 10 and the LAN traffic in VALN 20.
But i am not able to "teach" VirtualBox to do VLAN tagging. ( at least I do not see with Wireshark that the traffic leaving  the MAC has VLAN Tags. ( Wireshark runs on other PC and captures the traffic on a mirrored switch port)
One of my suspicion is the Type of Adapter I need to select.
There are two PCnet Am79C973 and Am79C970A and Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop,  Intel PRO/1000 T Server,  Intel PRO/1000 MT Server.
Googling around indicates that running under WIN requires a special driver. But I can't find anything which helps me with OS X.

Thank you for your advises Jakob

« on: October 31, 2015, 02:00:55 pm »
Hi,
just got the APU2. Do to the reason APU2 does currently not boot from SD card I took a "old" mSATA SSD and started from there.
Now I try to upgrade to the newest OpnSense release I ran into the following problem.
Q: How can I force the box to upgrade?
Thanks Jakob

15.7 Legacy Series / [SOLVED] Reload button for Firewall rule activation
« on: August 13, 2015, 08:41:22 pm »
Was there a reload (activate) button in the Firewall Rule page  in a earlier opnsense version?
In the actual version i am forced to leave the Firewall Screen and go to Filter reload, then the new rule is going to be active.

15.7 Legacy Series / successful 15.7.2 i386 nano Image installed on Alix 256MB
« on: July 14, 2015, 03:11:38 pm »
Hi,
may be this interesting for you.
Installed 15.7
upgraded via seral console to 15.7.2
(followed the instruction of Franco about disable and enable the RAM disk)

I have not made any performance test. The fist impression is that the reaction of the OPNsense screens seem to be slow.
Load average after 2 hours and playing with the WEBinterface
load average: 0.65, 0.71, 0.66

15.7 Legacy Series / [SOLVED] Cant restart DHCP Server
« on: July 03, 2015, 01:23:55 pm »
Hi,
I did the upgrade last Night which went fine. One hour ago I realized a PC did not receive anymore a IP address from the DHCP server. Looking into the OPNsense dashboard I realized the DHCP Server was down. First I restarted the Service, which did not help. I restarted the Router, did not help either.
The log does not say a lot. What can I do to provide you with details to get to the root cause.
(I have put 15.1.12 in place)

One thing I like to say. This is the first time since March my OPNsense let me down. Absolutely great work, gratulations to the team.
Regards Jakob

General Discussion / [SOLVED] Installing OPNsense nano image without serial cable connection ?
« on: June 27, 2015, 05:54:47 pm »
Hi, what are the reasons for the current requirement the image install needs initial setup with a serial connection? Considering the fact that newer PC do not have anymore a serial interface it would help in this situations to enable a installation. My suggestion is to "preset" the first Interface with a fixed IP address.
I am eager to hear your opinions.

15.1 Legacy Series / Captive Portal redirect behavior
« on: June 15, 2015, 11:56:53 am »
Hi, I need some advice.
Using the default Landing page of OPNsense i get after the successful login either the page success or if selected the popup window, using iphone or iPad. In case I do the same with a PC Browser then I get the preselected default page of the browser. If I do the same on the monowall captive Portal I get to the browsers default URL.

Observation / further explanation: Using iOS devices the user has to select first in the WLAN SSID. Then after a few seconds the CP shows up, where I enter the Voucher code. With a PC in most cases ( think this could depend on the PC settings) the user selects first the WLAN SSID and then as the next step the user open the browser where he need to enter the Code. After this step the default page of the browser shows up.

Q: Is there a parameter in the CP settings which determines this behavior. using iOS mobile devices. (The CP settings of OPNsense allow more options than the monowall CP.)
Thank you for your response. Jakob
