Tutorials and FAQs / Spare Staitc IP
« on: September 21, 2024, 02:25:45 am »
Hi!

I have a spare static IP.  I am planning to use exclusively for a host in my Lan.net. What would be the best practice to do this?

So, far I'm thinking the ff:

1.  Create Virtual IP with the Spare Static IP
2.  Create a Rule in LAN for the host using the Virtual IP as GateWay

or

3.  Create a port forwarding Rule

4. Crete OutBount NAT Rule

For 3 & 4 not sure how to do this.

Any thoughts?

General Discussion / DHCP options
« on: May 10, 2024, 09:48:45 pm »
Hi!

Do you have any tips on dhcp options that I may try that will enhanced connectivity?  Trying to make some experiments that may help me with the following when my modem is in bridge-mode:

1.  Faster issuance of IP
2.  Limit lease renewal or Ip change.  ISP renews or change IP every 24 hours

ISP refuses to share any info on this

Thanks

General Discussion / Missing Fields
« on: March 07, 2024, 01:34:47 am »
I noticed some fields have this displayed instead of the value that was assigned to it:

"overall type: unknown_type html type: HTML_TYPE"

Upon chcking the config file the proper value is saved and present.

Is there any way to correct this?

General Discussion / MSS Clamping
« on: December 13, 2023, 12:21:23 am »
I'm considering MSS value 1448.  I just would like to confirm that I understood it right what is indicated on the "help".  It would deduct a value of 40 on the MSS field.  So, the value that I need to put on the field is MSS 1488.  Is that right?

General Discussion / Tunables
« on: November 02, 2023, 06:05:43 am »
Hi!

I'm new to opnsense.  I was making entries in the tunables section.  After reboot I noticed that the very same entries were also made in Loader.conf.  Isn't this redundant?  Can I  make the entries in Loader.Local.conf instead?
