Hi,

I've received my Qotom box, but it's doing this:

https://youtu.be/LDCA_4nOpzA

I've asked the Qotom store, and they've asked me to reseat the RAM, which doesn't sound like it's something that'd fix it. It didn't.

Similarly, they're asking me to reseat the battery too. DOes anyone know exactly why the Qotom box might be doing this?

Thanks

Hi

I've just got my Qotom box now, but I'm not sure how you install opnsense on here? Also, do I have to mess around with jumpers?

Thanks

I'd like to have IPS enabled on broadband up to 500Mb/s. I have 350Mb/s down speed at home - We'll be switching to another supplier soon too.

So I'm considering either this:

OR this:

TPM installed [TPM] $12.00

No OS
FC-POED Gbit Ethernet with PoE Device [FPOED] FACET Card
No WiFi
Standard Top Cover
Standard branding
Commercial Temperature Range
Standard DC input range 7V – 20V
Total: $351.80 + $50 for delivery + VAT + duty/customs

Or indeed any other device you can recommend that's fairly small in size (Replacing my Fortinet 60e that I had as a lab for a year)

I only have LAN and WAN connected to my Fortinet currently.

General Discussion / Client VPN into network?
September 25, 2020, 08:25:44 PM
Hi,

I have DDNS configured on my firewall atm which really isn't the best way to access my firewall (not an Opnsense appliance)

Then I've got VIPs set up to access other resources, behind the firewall too. I don't have a firewall at this place, nor do I have a static IP
I believe that you can create a VPN with an FQDN

Would it be possible to create a VPN that uses a client to login to it?

That'd be fairly useful, given a lack of firewall on this end

Thanks

Hardware and Performance / Q350G4 vs Fitlet2
August 25, 2020, 03:04:23 PM
Hi,

I've now decided on either the fitlet2 or the Qotom box mentioned above. I'd like to have IPS enabled on broadband up to 500Mb/s. I have 350Mb/s atm

I do just need LAN/WAN tbh too given I have a real hardware switch to connect to

Any help would be appreciated

Hardware and Performance / What hardware?
August 14, 2020, 08:55:56 PM
Hi,

I've looked here:
https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=14360.0

But not sure if the Qotom-Q555G6-S05  is still a good shout?

I'm currently playing with a Fortinet 60e which is costing me the Earth, given I'm a home user, and I therefore require something that's fanless and low power.

I'd like to have a "sort of" UTM, where it has AES-NI enabled too, just in case I like the look of something else, so I don't have to buy twice

Currently on the Fortinet, with only me connected to it, apparently it's using 56% RAM with 86 sessions and 14.1% load on the SPU

The maximum amount of people connected to it would be maybe ten. 20 at a push. On the Fortinet I've VLANd off one of the interfaces and made that my interface for my downlink to my switch, and I've got a WAN interface out. It doesn't seem like there's a noticeable difference when adding the firewall. The speed of my broadband is 350Mb/s (down)

I also want to make sure that I don't use Intel 219 NICs because they're not supported with another vendor should I choose to reflash the firmware.

I live in the UK too, but I'm fine with purchasing something say from aliexpress, or Europe. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I'm looking at different options atm. I believe OPNsense is essentially Pfsense with a nicer UI?

Sophos is Sophos which has a UTM offering for home users, presumably so that you try it out commercially.

OPnsense also has the advantage of being able to be used commercially, and we could use that on our guest network with an air gap. Can you use OPnsense as a UTM solution?

I appreciate that you might have to download various packages instead of a unified dashboard in "one single pane of glass" to use the marketing terminology

Thanks
