After the latest upgrade KEA DHCP dont show any leases, my network is up and running as usual, all static leases is assigned and dynamic leases works fine too....but nothing is listet in, KEA leases.

Dont know if its because of the new update or it takes some time before they show up...any other with this issue?

24.7, 24.10 Legacy Series / Migrate to KEA IPV4
July 27, 2024, 04:30:36 PM
I got a small network with some static IP adresses and the rest dynamic, no VLANS and pretty much straight forward. I do have a FW Alias and LAN rules to prevent some static IP adresses from access Internet, they are LAN only.

My Q is, is migrating to KEA from ISC DHCP as stright forward as my LAN?? can I just disable ISC and activate KEA, set up the same static IP's and count on the FW Alias/Rule to work as before??

Any experience in this??

Thanks in advance :-)

General Discussion / IPV6 on LAN only
May 23, 2024, 06:24:15 PM
Hi

I have some problems with blocking devices from access Internet if they use IPV6, IPV4 is no problem, just setting up an alias and add static IP adresse from the devices. As I understand, its not the same with IPV6.

My MACs has a feature to only use IPV6 on LAN, is it possible to make OpnSense to do the same...block all IPV6 traffic from LAN to WAN 🙂   That would really be helpfull, i dont want to disable IPV6 completely.

Maybe this could be a feature request...

TIA

Hi

I got an Alias set up and LAN rules that I can add IPV4 adresses on so that they cant get access to the internet, i assign the device that I want to block, an static IPV4 address and then add that to the Alias, it works perfectly.

The problem is when the device also get an IPV6 address, can I do the same thing with IPV6...give the device an static IPV6 addres and them ad that to the alias?? Im not sure how to do that

23.7 Legacy Series / Weird behavior
September 02, 2023, 04:56:16 PM
I just installed Opnsense on my Alder Lake N100 box, and out of the blue it went from 1000mbit on WAN to 100mbit...I rebooted my opnsense and resat my ONT, still "Media" was 100mbit....I selected the portspeed from "Auto select" to 1000 mbit full duplex", rebooted and got the right portspeed...all was good. I now tried to reverse back to "Auto select" and rebooted once more, and now it got it right, the port negotiation was correct, 1000mbit full duplex.

Is this a Alder Lake issue or??

My NICs are Intel 226V, 2.5mbit

Thanks

23.7 Legacy Series / Probably a stupid Q
September 02, 2023, 03:10:05 PM
Hi

I have been running Opnsense for a couple of years without problems, on a Celeron box, and now I bought a Alder Lake N100 box from HUNSN.

I went for ZFS in stead of UFS on the old one, and now the dashboard show a a lot of entries in "Disk usage", see attached picture, on the old one there was only 2....my Q is, is this normal?

Thanks

Hardware and Performance / New Opnsense box
August 07, 2023, 10:05:15 AM
Hi

Any experience with this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HUNSN-Firewall-Appliance-Barebone-Storage/dp/B0BZJC12VP?th=1

I have read a lot of bad things about the Intel NIC i225V having problems with 2,5Gb speed, and now I read that the problem apparently still exists on the I226V...ant words of wisdom?

Thanks in advance :-)

Hi guys

Im thinking of buying a new device for use with Opnsense, i have one from Thomas Krenn and want a new one from same dealer, this is the one im thinking of buying

https://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/products/application/opnsense-firewalls/opnsense-firewall-configurators/les.html

This is my old one

https://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/products/application/opnsense-firewalls/opnsense-firewall-configurators/les-compact-4l.html

Im thinking, install Opnsense from scratch and use a configuration backup from the old one, will this cause any problems?? How much does the configuration backup contain?

The hardware is of cause not the same, difference in almost everything, difference in number of LAN ports, HDMI and so on, so maybe a one-one from old to new, is not a good idea?? Any words

Thanks

John

20.1 Legacy Series / Upgrading from 19.7.10 to 20.1
January 30, 2020, 05:39:37 PM
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if I try to update my 19.7.10 in the OPNsense software, hitting the "check for updates" there is no updates available, but I can see that 20.1 is out now?

Is it not possible to update via update in OPNSense with this version?

19.7 Legacy Series / Feature request
August 13, 2019, 02:19:32 PM
I once had a router that had the ability to deny internet access to devices with a single click, this was really useful and extremely easy, just a x in a box next to the MAC address. Any chance this feature could sneak in, in a future update to OPNsense?

General Discussion / Disk usage
May 04, 2019, 10:00:07 AM
Hi

Any explanation to why the new update now takes 1.4 Gb diskspace? I think the old version took only a couple og hundred Megabytes...as I recall :-)

Not that I don't have the space, I just wondered

General Discussion / LAN interface HELP
March 30, 2019, 11:45:02 AM
I have a box with 4 ports, I use one for WAN and the rest for LAN, but only one port is working for internetaccess.

How do I set them up so they work, do they need static IP or ..? The one LAN port that works, is set up with static IP 192.168.1.1 but the rest is DHCP, ...what to do???

General Discussion / Setup
March 08, 2019, 04:12:14 PM
Here is how I figure my install.

Take my new device https://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/products/application/opnsense-firewalls/les-compact-4l.html
set it up in room 1 with a monitor, keyboard/mouse and a boot USB stick containing Opnsense, boot in VGA (as I downloaded) install Opnsense, after that shut down and take my device/Opnsense router to room 2, hook up WAN on LAN1 and the remaining 2-4 LAN port to my computers.

Start up my device/Opnsense router, and go to 192.168.1.1 from a computer on the LAN and configure it.

Is this right, and can I just unplug my device after install, i guess there is no "shut down" option...or?

Hardware and Performance / Considering a OPNsense setup
February 19, 2019, 11:30:44 AM
Hi

I have spend a lot of time finding the right hardware for my, soon to come, OPNsense router/firewall.
Any words about this one https://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/products/application/opnsense-firewalls/les-compact-4l.html

Its almost perfect I think, except the price is a little steep, small, no fans, low power, support AES-NI for future VPN and Intel chipset and NIC's

What can i expect from ordenary use with this and Opnsense Vs my Cisco RV-340? I'm thinking performance/speed and stability?

I really don't trust these factory routers and there proprietary firmware, and specially not Cisco after been reading about backdoors in there routers.

Thanks

I would like to have a router that I can trust, and I think I'll get a lot closer to that with Opnsense
