Hi!

I have a weird performance issue and I am not sure how to solve it.
My OpnSense firewall is installed on a proxmox server. On this proxmox server I have two nodes - one LAN node and one node in VLAN 66.
I have an OpenWRT access point connected to the firewall, a 2.5 Gbit connection for LAN and 1 Gbit connection for other VLANs (management, iot, guest, vlan66). This access point is connected via WIFI to 5 other access points via B.A.T.M.A.N. mesh, serving all vlans. However, none access point is part of VLAN66.

I have attached a generalized network map.

I figured out, that my node in vlan66 can only transfer < 5 Mbit/s to nodes connected to other access points in my lan, so I tested with some iperf3 tests.

node vlan 66 -> access point 1 (lan) = 2.3 Gbit/s
node vlan 66 -> access point 2 (lan) = 4-5 Mbit/s

However, if I try this with a lan node on my proxmox setup, I get similar numbers, if I test directly between the access points:

node lan -> access point 1 (lan) = 2.3 Gbit/s
node lan -> access point 2 (lan) = 120 Mbit/s

I have no idea how to further analyze this. Do you have any hints for me, where to look into?

Kind regards,
   Christian

Hi!

I recently updated to 25.1 and today to 25.1.1. Since the main update my android devices and my sons iPhone are having trouble loading websites or other (larger) media. My other devices (laptop or streaming devices) do not have any trouble.

Based on the high amount of TCP DUP ACKs and retransmitting - I am losing packages, just on this devices.

My opnsense is connected to WAN via PPPOE (German Telekom) which leads to MTU sizes of 1492. I double checked this configuration and also configured this MTU size now for the LAN. Also applied the patches described here in https://github.com/opnsense/src/issues/235, prior to the update to 25.1.1.
Also disabled IPv6 for now...

I am a little buzzled and looking for another angle to look on this issue.. any idea where I should take another look about this issue?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,
   Christian

Technical details:

* Wifi APs with OpenWRT 24.10.0 running BATMAN mesh
* One AP connected to opnsense box
* VLANs (LAN, Guest, Management)
* opnsense: WAN with PPPOE via VDSL modem
* WAN is NOT having MTU set, since the auto calculated value is good!
* LAN MTU = 1492
