Ok, I found the mistake. Apparently changing the keyboard layout during the installation process seems to have caused the issue. Leave the configuration on default for anyone experiencing something similar helped me.

Hey Guys,

I have been trying to install OPNSense onto a VBox. After installing and rebooting the set root password is not recognised as being valid, even if the standard password "opnsense" for user "root" is set to default. Does anybody have any ideas or solutions to this problem?
