Tutorials and FAQs / Losing internet periodically
February 03, 2023, 10:01:20 AM
Hello all. I've installed an opnsense firewall at my parents house. I'm really far away and I can't understand what I'm seeing here. The data is from a ubiquity key, as there are no open ports.

It's running on a jasper lake device, sitting right downstream from the provider modem.

I spent a few weeks with opnsense before doing this installation and believe everything should be working perfectly. There's no VPN, no vm, IDS/IPS. Stock, barring some power and CPU settings

General Discussion / Noise traffic generation
December 30, 2022, 12:53:26 PM
I've been wondering, just for the heck of it, I'm not that paranoid, if I should use a VM with VPN to generate random traffic.

Theres a project on github called Noisy that can do this in a docker container, but it was last updated in 2017. The browser extension seems to have flopped as well.

Is there a comparable project around?

QuoteThere are good reasons to not want to use UPnP IMO but what option is the best I wont comment further on. I will however add how it is possible to get the same result (NAT type 2) without installing UPnP via Hybrid outbound NAT.

Change IP to static on Xbox/Playstation
Firewall -> NAT -> Outbound: Set Mode to Hybrid outbound NAT rule generation
Add a new rule just below (See attached screenshot for options)
Make sure the Xbox/Playstation is allowed to communicate on the interface it is connected to (likely LAN).

When I do this, I'm only able to set a subnet in the single host or network field - after saving it shows 1.0 instead of the intended 1.20 and shows the netmask.

I do have the upnp service enabled and it doesn't seem to do anything. Its exceptions do work though. Only 8 rules there from what I can tell...

Touche, but anythings better than "Generic error - go ask in the forum" no?

In any case, answered so thank you.

Ok, thank you! I thought it would just parse them out like pihole does when its doing its gravity update. But why not just say that instead of a cryptic error? Humbug!
