I personally have been unable to identify the reason for it.

Personally you haven't bothered with even looking the top output and focused on rants about burning CPUs at 70C. 

Dunno, if something is using your CPU, have a look at what it is. Ditto for the OP here:

I mean the DNS zones which the AD DNS is authoritative for. If you have multiple DCs (you really should), add the same entry for each (or at least do two of them for redundancy).

You restart DNS, not OPNsense.

There's no indication whatsoever that tells the user that. The entire section should be hidden UNLESS the user hits a button that says something like "fill in the boring technical stuff with stuff I already know" or something like that.

Well, I am sure pretty much noone else would appreciate that section to be hidden by default since it's extremely useful to  - let me quote the GUI description that's already there once again: "fill in data for your service provider." Most users have no idea what to fill in there, really. The ISPs don't provide any howtos with what to fill where for OPNsense.

You configure the PPP interface.
You need to assign that to some WAN. This really is no different from PPPoE, GIF, VLAN, LAGG or whatever else.

What is the best way to configure OPNSense when using it as a Router/Firewall and DHCP/DNS managed by a Windows 2019 Server? How to configure OPNSense DNS settings?

Use query forwarding to point all your AD-integrated forward and reverse zones (in-addr.arpa, ip6.arpa) to the AD DNS server(s).
