General Discussion / Help with DNS on multiple IPs

I have my router setup on lan as 192.168.1.2. I added a virtual IP of 192.168.1.1. Some day I plan to use CARP to make 192.168.1.1 work on two routers.
Anyway, I'm using Adguard Home and unbound to serve DNS and they answer on both 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. If a client queries 192.168.1.1, I get the error (from nslookup):
;; reply from unexpected source: 192.168.1.2#53, expected 192.168.1.1#53
I'd like for requests to 192.168.1.1 answer back from 192.168.1.1, and requests to 192.168.1.2 answer back as 192.168.1.2.
I thought maybe doing something in the NAT outbound firewall rules could accomplish this, but I haven't been able to come up with anything that makes a difference.
