Title: opnsense - Randomly unable to access router, cpu process high
Post by: Georgi27 on October 15, 2018, 05:08:14 pm
Good afternoon!

Here's my issue;

I came in this morning to work, and was asked to add a new device to the dhcp MAC reservation list. However, between the main login screen and actually entering the information for the new device, I spent about 20 minutes. All menus and sub-menus take over 3-4 minutes to load.

-update, turns out opnsense had errors and the dhcp stopped working. This is the second time in less than a month. The CPU usage was at 100% but we have no idea which process was using up so much? We need to find a solution, we just can't afford to reboot the router every time.

Our setup:
We have a small desktop which has 3 NICs, 2 LANs and 1 WAN, 4 GB of RAM and an i5 2.6GHz Dual-core. We have one network set for the office and the other for guests and employees.

If you need more info please ask, and tanks in advance!

Cheers,

Hi Georgi,

missing  a lot of information... ;D

- OPNsense version
- more information of used hardware (eg. NICs)
- what kind of internet connection do use (setup)
- how do you resolve DNS (unbound or dnsmasq)
- system log and log from DHCP service

btw. to identify the cpu burner in GUI go to System: Diagnostics: Activity , or use top in a ssh session
