Title: Modern Gateway Monitoring
Post by: franco on September 13, 2018, 04:58:01 pm
Hi everyone,

As you may have noticed Dpinger was added to help with the troubles that Apinger seems to have had over the years. Now that we have two monitoring tools there are a few questions for everybody using gateway monitoring that would help shape the direction of the feature set in the future.

1. Do you use (it for) Multi-WAN?
2. Do you use Apinger or Dpinger?
3. Would you prefer Dpinger to be the default in e.g. 19.1?
4. Would you prefer Apinger to be removed in e.g. 19.7?
5. And bonus question: What keeps you from using Dpinger? What do you miss about Apinger?

Here are my answers for my setups...

1. No.
2. Dpinger
3. Yes.
4. 19.1. :P
5. I don't use any special settings.

Thanks,
Franco

5. I don't use any special settings.

In addition to 5. As soon as Apinger is removed then Dpinger will have the extra settings that are available added.

I help you, 1 down 6 to go  ;D

1. No
2. Dpinger
3. Don't matter for me.
4. I trust your expertise
5.I'm on a home net, Dpinger is monitoring, but, do I need it...

Obviously it does not concern people. They had the chance. : :P
Now that's not entirely true,  just I trust the designers/devs to make the 'right' choice, whichever one that may be  :P

I'll reply for everyone else.  (nothing like putting words in the mouths of 10,000 other people who didn't even know the question was asked ).

We rely on those who know the subject better than us to make sensible decisions to be the default.  We don't have enough knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks of either.    We have you own jobs and problems and knowledge base.   The details of apinger & dpinger, we don't have that.

If there are good reasons to be using dpinger and not apinger, why haven't you changed the setup in the firewall already?

But, specifically, for me.

1. no
2. what ever the default is
3. insufficient knowledge to make an informed decision
4. insufficient knowledge to make an informed decision
5. insufficient knowledge to make an informed decision, but YOU made the choice to use apinger, it must be your preference, so i went with that.

Hello,

Regarding your issue, I need to know if there is a way to monitoring the IPSec. Sometimes goes down. I need monitoring the status for the IP Sec.

Thank you in advance if someone has some option.
