Title: Upgrade from 18.1 to 18.7 failed
Post by: hirschferkel on August 02, 2018, 10:29:42 pm
Trying to update from 18.1 to 18.7 with console did not work again (as with 17.7 already) with Varia Store Router. Hat to install the nano.img with terminal instead and now it's working. But it's somehow really annoying that the upgrad will never proceed...

What device is this? Which hardware specs and disk? Did it come preinstalled?

There is not a lot to go on here so I can't say something other there is a consistent problem in this particular case. So that means while it's unlikely to exist it surfaces again and again because the parameter that causes this does not change for you. Does that make sense?

So it's a Varia Store OPNsense Komplettsystem mit AMD APU2C4 und WLAN (10.05.16)https://varia-store.com/de/produkt/32616-opnsense-komplettsystem-mit-amd-apu2c4-und-wlan-modul.html (https://varia-store.com/de/produkt/32616-opnsense-komplettsystem-mit-amd-apu2c4-und-wlan-modul.html)
Tha last OS was installed with a Nano-Image and thus the upgrade did not work on that image (17.7)

I hope you understand that's still very little to go on. How big was the main disk? What errors did you encounter in the log? What was the fix in 17.7 -> 18.1 update that you seemed to have performed eventually? What was the state of the 18.7 update after trying to perform it? Did it partially upgrade? Nothing at all?

Cheers,
Franco

I have no further logs, sorry.
Would be possible that it was the 18.1 nanoimage instead of the 17.7 and i got confused about this.
The whole ugrade downloaded completely and after the OS initated a reboot it stopped completely.
I just wanted to inform you about that unexpected behavior, which now turns out to be something consistent since, at least, the 17th versions.
The flash card is 8GB big.

Okay, I guess I was lucky. I had configured the TOPT password option in the past but always used local passwords.
Well, obviously, I now need the TOPT. As I  changed my phone and never used the TOPT, i did not reconfigure it.

Luckily you can extract the seed from the config backup...

Then use root and as password <TOPT><PASSWORD> and I could get back in.

Guess I was just lucky, as the DECISO applicance is difficult to access via terminal in my opinion.

Maybe this helps somebody else.
