Title: [SOLVED] how/unable to add NICs 3-8
Post by: warking on July 03, 2018, 01:11:16 pm
2x quad intel nics. coming over from pfsense to opnsense for the first time.  can someone tell me how I can add more than just the wan and lan nics?  when I plugin the other nics they come up but it also wipes the wan and lan config. changing vmx1 lan to vmx3 lan and vmx1 disappears from valid nic list. as a result causes connectivity failure; and I start getting spam on the console for lan having multiple MACs.

im not trying to bridge them. i have 7 vlans and the wan. i want each physical nic to separate as the vlan is done on the switches.

typed from phone after being up all night with this.  apologies for grammer.

First, go to Interfaces [WAN] and [LAN] and enable "Prevent interface removal".

After that shut down and add more NICs and power up.

Worst case your vmx devices shift the existing WAN and LAN in which case you will have to reconfigure from the console anyway.

It's not a lot we can do if the interfaces reorder after adding/removing more.

Cheers,

thanks.
next, how do I configure the other interfaces?  I do not see an option to add under interfaces.

thanks!  got it.  just odd how the nics reassigned themselves automatically.  the do not remove feature helped
