Title: 18.1.10: dpinger activation -how to replace apinger
Post by: bringha on June 21, 2018, 07:46:36 pm
Hi there,

with pleasure i noticed that now a package for dpinger is provided with 18.1.10. Do I assume right that for now no GUI support for   dpinger is provided?

If so is there a safe recommendation how to replace apinger with dpinger via console?

Looking forward to your reply

Firewall - Settings - Advanced - Gateway Monitoring - Monitoring Daemon

Thanks a lot, it works!

I have to admit that I never would have looked under firewall.

There is  a dedicated gateway menu under 'system' which also allows to switch Gateway monitoring on/off. What is the concept idea behind to put this tick box under firewall configuration?

Dpinger replacement is a global setting for which no dedicated gateway page exist. The choice was between stuffing it into System: Settings: Misc or Firewall: Settings: Advanced. In the latter case, at least a "gateway monitoring" section already exists.

This is temporary and we will likely remove apinger in 19.1, maybe even enable dpinger by default in 18.7.

Thanks Franco,

Hmmmmm - this is one option how to do it ....

However, concept of dpinger creates individual instances per gateway. It would make sense, to allow selective gateway monitoring. Latest when replacing apinger, an individual activation in the gateway screen would more intuitive.

Just my 10 cents

That's what will happen when apinger is gone. Since apinger is monolithic it takes more work to build a "mixed" environment if we enabled dpinger use per gateway that will not matter in the grand scheme of things and/or force bugs between the services or at least higher support efforts. Also, said per-gateway switch would have to be abandoned again when apinger is gone, because we already have a gateway on/off switch.

I like the difference so far, even more so being a multi-wan'er.

I like the RTTd which I presume to mean Real Time Tracking Data. Correct me if I am wrong.
