Title: captive portal (or similar) without ripping of internet
Post by: Wired Life on May 31, 2018, 05:42:14 pm
Hey  ;)
Is it possible to set up a captive portal or something similar that shows me a portal site but does not disconnect the internet?
I would show a portal site to all users with the login (accept) button, but the internet must be always accessible.

Thanks!

Did you read your post by yourself? If the internet must be accessible, you cannot force a login. This is mutual exclusive. You can setup a normal web server in your network for hosting content if you like. Also the captive portal allows a login without credentials but it still blocks all connections until you click the login button.

Currently i use the login without credentials but i dont want to cut off the internet.
I dont know how the captive portal software works but i think there must be iptable like filtering for mac adresses there are not on the session list.
Maybe it works by deleting a rule so the internet will not cut off.
Would be very nice to have this feature.

a captive portal means no internet access until you authenticate on a portal page (for example via HTTP). In case of HTTP, you get redirected to a login page - after the login you can do whatever the firewall rules allow you to do. If you don't want that, you don't want a captive portal.

you can run a webserver on a OPNsense device, but it will NOT automatically open or force the user to do anything.
