Title: Anyone using these?
Post by: shtech on May 30, 2018, 04:07:02 pm
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0719L1VFK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0719L1VFK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

I used the VGA image and it installed fine. Made a few changes, added a NAT forward, linked DHCP to unbound dns for internal dns, nothing major.
Rebooted and it would hang up after "Starting system logging..." then several of these: "CAM status command timeout" then it would start over.

I'm currently loading the nano image to see if there's any difference. The reviews have quite a few saying pfsense works great on it, so i assumed opnsense wouldn't have any issue. Not sure what happened.

One of the reviews also says Opnsense runs fine on it too.

I would do a fresh install and try again.

It happened again and either associated with the wan cable being unplugged or the HD is filling up.. dunno.

it hangs at "Configuring system logging..."

This time I installed from the nano image, screen shot coming later. hoping someone knows what might be happening.

Hi SHTECH,

Yes, I have several different Mini-PC HW, including the one you mentioned. Some others from a different brand. All of them use the same hardware/processor/NIC. I nefer had any problem with them.
Everything works really OK. Did you check your SSD and memory comb? Sometimes it's the hardware who have problems.

Regards
Fabricio.

i'm not having the same luck with them. Both of the units had the same problem, the second unit did it today. It gives an error that seems to relate to some code pertaining to the hard drive, ssd in this case. It's seems very tempermental when it comes to restarting without the wan connection connected.

Code: [Select]
SEND_FPDMA_QUEUED DATA SET MANAGEMENT
Several of these instances, then you get the login prompt. The first unit would just fail after it gave 5 of those messages.

ahcich0: Timeout slot 16 port 0

CAM status: Command timeout
Retrying Command

repeats 10 times, with the slot changing and the cmd being slightly different each time.

Does this on reboot after it's been running a while.

I keep googleing these errors but find nothing except bad HD posts on freebsd forums. Anyone experienced this with Opnsense?

Didn't fix it for me. Don't know if would be different with the VGA image instead of the nano... I've been installing from nano but had this problem with the vga image as well.

Anyone have an SSD they recommend? I'll try replacing it next to see if that's the issue?

The fix for 18.1 was to change the ide mode to ata instead of ahci. 18.7 may have different luck.
