Title: RTL8139C NIC Firebox X700
Post by: guest18070 on May 03, 2018, 09:59:47 pm
I recently picked up a Watchguard Firebox X700 cheap off eBay and following various guides strewn across the internet have managed to get opnsense loaded on a HDD and booted up.

Now the problem...

Opnsense does not seem to have a driver for the RTL8139C NIC in the firebox, or at least that's what it is telling me, I get the following:

pci2: <network, ethernet> at device 9.0 (no driver attached)
pci2: <network, ethernet> at device 10.0 (no driver attached)

And so on for the 6 NICs, I then can't see them to assign LAN and WAN interfaces. I have seen plenty of people using the X700 with pfsense with no problems.

Anybody know what might be causing it?

Thanks in advance.

Does FreeBSD 11 support it? I'm asking because we use the Realtek vendor driver so we support whatever they support and I'm not sure this syncs up 100% with FreeBSD.

Hi Franco,

thanks for your hint, i'll try this. Is it possible to use the memstick-variant on a sd-card and boot from there? Or do I have to do something else?

Regards

The install memstick has a live mode. That should be enough to grab dmesg and see what ifconfig reports. :)

Cheers,
