Amazon sells a "AR9462 AR5B22 Combo WiFi 2.4G/5G & Bluetooth 4.0 module, 802.11 ABGN Dual Band, 2T/2R Mini PCI-Express Half-Size Module, Atheros AR9462 chipset (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012JQVUX8)" that would fit in the hardware we are using, but I can't determine if OPNsense supports it. Does anyone know for sure, or does anyone know of a similar module that is known for sure to work with OPNsense?

Hi,
the AFAIK best driver support for FreeBSD have the Atheros AR9280 chipsets. I suggest you to look for a half-size m-pci card with this chipset.

Overall i suggest you to choose an external AP for wifi! Internal wifi-cards and FreeBSD is not a good combinataion :-[. I used two AR9280 cards into my OPNsense (2,4 and 5 Ghz). But the wifi stability wasn't quite good.
Now i use an external AP (with PoE) and my wifi stability is rock solid. :)

Thanks. After reading your comment along with other threads and doing some testing, we realized that the new router would probably never do a satisfactory job of handling WiFi, so we used the old router (now behind the new OPNsense router) for WiFi only. So, all the wired connections go through the OPNsense router only, while the WiFi connections go Old Router -> OPNsense Router -> Internet. Seems to be working well so far.
(In case anyone is wondering, the reason we were trying to replace the old router is because the firmware isn't being updated regularly anymore, whereas OPNsense gets frequent updates, especially security updates).
