Title: Still having the ehci_wait_td:517 error from second boot onwards
Post by: nvdbroek on March 18, 2018, 09:32:32 pm
I'm trying to upgrade my Deciso firewall from an old version of pfsense to a new version of opnsense. I have tried various versions but all work until the first reboot. After the first reboot, the firewall gets in an endless timeout loop. This error has been reported before and solutions have been given but these do not work in my situation.
I'm running the nanoimage on a 16Gb SD card, version 18.1. Even if I upgrade to 18.1.4 before the first reboot, install the bootdelay package, the system won't restart. I have checked the configuration files for the bootdelay and hint.achi settings and these are set as proposed in the forum.
Here's part of the error message:

I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have a solution?

Is the unit still in warranty? What support do you have with Deciso?

I own the firewall for about 3 years now and I didn't buy extra support. I bought it as a pfsense firewall originally, but it wouldn't upgrade because of partition size issues. So I tried a new install on a new disk (same speed as original but different brand and different size), so that on failure, I could always revert to the original. I decided to try opnsense and I like the user interface. It is cleaner and easier to use. So I prefer to to use opnsense now.

Did you happen to read this:

Found it while looking around.

How did you install the image? I had the same kind of problem after first reboot when I "dd" the nano image directly to an SD card. Every time I re-copied the image to the SD card, it would fail after first reboot. I'd also tried adding a boot delay etc.

In the end I put the nano image on a USB stick using the same method, and used opnsense-installer from the shell to install it onto the SD card. Similar to the methods here (which I'm about to add to):

I burned it directly to a new SD card, using the nano image.
I will try the USB install (when I have the opportunity to bring the network down again for some time), and come back with the results. Or maybe I will try to update via the console.

Try this image:

https://pkg.opnsense.org/FreeBSD:11:amd64/snapshots/OPNsense-18.1.6-notrim-OpenSSL-nano-amd64.img.bz2

File not found. I guess I waited too long.  :-\ Found the "Notify" button now. Next time I will check sooner. Or if it is included in version 18.1.7, I may try that.

18.1.6 images are out so the spurious test versions were removed:

The "#notrim" did not work.

But a full install via a USB live image did the trick. Problem solved.
Thanks

Mhh, the notrim doesn't work if not administered to the image beforehand, that's what the 18.1.6 Nano does, so you are saying it doesn't work on the 18.1.6 Nano for you still?
