Title: Can´t set IPv6 Prefix on LAN
Post by: BeNe on February 11, 2018, 06:21:49 pm
Hi,

i´m unable to set a IPv6 Prefix ID for my internal networks.
I Track the IPv6 Prefix from my WAN and need to set the prefix to 1.

But this seems to be a bug for me:

-> Enter a hexadecimal value between 0 and 0 here, default value is 0.  ??

Between 0 and 0, default is 0 ?  ::)
Value must be between 0 and f.

Thanks for any help.

Why do you need to set the prefix  to 1?  ( Apart from the possible bug? )

Checked....

You cannot set it to '1' unless you have specified that as the prefix interface ID in advanced IPv6 WAN settings. Unless you have more than one LAN and need multiple prefixes then '0' is the default and that's all it will allow you to select.

Hi marjohn56,

thanks for your quick reply and help.

Why do you need to set the prefix  to 1?
I have 9 internal VLANs (Server, Client, WiFi, Dev,...) every Network has it´s own IPv4 Range and an own IPv6 Prefix. So want/need to set a prefix for every network.

What point do you mean ? I added a Screenshot for my current ipv6 basic setup. Never use the advanced mode.

Correct, i have 9 active VLAN Interfaces.

Could you set now a range between 0 to f in your setup for the IPv6 Prefix ?

Thanks for you help and time!

What prefix size is your delegation from the ISP?

I suspect what you have done is set the prefix size to /64 in the WAN IPv6 settings, if that's all your ISP will allow then you cannot split it.

If you set the prefix size to something less than 64 then you will find that you can then enter the Prefix ID in the LAN settings.

Sorry for the lack of information  :-\
My Carrier (Telekom Germany) send out a IPv6 /56

On my WAN Interface on the OPNSense i set the Prefix delegation size to /60.

That´s what i expect. So all in all the Prefix ID´s works per default  ::)
I´m going to recheck my config. So it is not a bug in that case.

Thanks for quick help.
