Title: Multi WAN DNS issue
Post by: muchacha_grande on February 01, 2018, 06:48:18 pm
Hi,
I've recently configured OPNSense for a customer with Dual WAN.
I need help with an issue.
The configuration did't work using unbound DNS and for now I've managed to make it work with DNS forwarder.
The problem was that when I tested disconnecting a WAN interface, the router losed DNS functionality but the routing worked fine.
One thing I noted is that interfaces overview showed all DNSs listed under the first WAN and none of them under the second one. Even the DNS configured to route through WAN2 was shown under the first WAN.
As I said, it is working with DNS forwarder but it shoud work with Unbound.
The configuration was made following the howto at OPNSense Manual page https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/multiwan.html

Any clue will be appreciated
Cheers...

I had the same problem with DNS not working when failed over to the backup WAN connection.  I fixed it by;

1. Goto Services -> Unbound DNS -> General
2. Tick option "Enable Forwarding Mode" and Save.

Had the same problem, but for my case "Enable Forwarding Mode" is already on, so this is/ was not a solution for me.
