Title: Automatic Firmware Check
Post by: bigops on November 15, 2017, 07:21:05 pm
Currently the only option that we seem to have is to configure cron for an automatic FW upgrade.  But this may not be desirable in a production system.  Are there any plans to introduce firmware upgrade notifications which can be sent automatically via email based on a Cron job and and additional functionality that on logging on to the GUI with an admin access the page check and notifies automatically that an upgrade is available??

There is a 3rd party script you can run from another server:

Thank you. That will help.  But this could be a feature that would be nice to have on OPNSense itself.

It’s a wishlist item, but there are a few other things the firmware needs at the moment, which is scheduling updates more carefully than with a cron job. For reporting to work, we also need to remove the old notification system and move the monit plugin to the core to be able to use it as a central mechanism.
